Hey all, not sure if we're allowed to link to Dragonsfoot or not so I'll just copy & paste what I posted over there, to here.
Hey all!
Going back to this thread here (I had made a thread asking for advice about getting a hold of a starter set for D&D and people suggested I make my own), I decided to take a stab at making a starter set thing for my son. Here is the result (A brief explanation of the stuff after the pics):
I was going to go with LL and the Dagger RPG thing from Brave Halfling but Dagger wasn't ready. John gave me a link to the rules themselves so that what I'll be using in regards to my son. For the rest of my group, I couldn't resist getting a boxed set so went with Delving Deeper. Delving Deeper's presentation of the original rules have been a big hit with us so we're sticking with them.
Throughout the next year, I am going to try and slowly get the B/X boxed sets and BECMI sets off ebay. In the meantime we'll use DD & LL.
The box features the famous art of Larry Elmore (Who gave his blessing to use the picture on this box lol). I Saw people who had done their own wood grain boxes used wood grain contact paper so I used clear contact paper over a print out of the picture and words. The "D&D font" I found on deviant art. Thanks to zentron zentron.deviantart.com/
The contents of the box are:
-A set of dice
-Maps of my campaign world (My son loves maps)
-4 Minis (The Dagger Kid's Rules give the choice of a Knight, a Dwarf, an Elf and a Magic-User so those are the mini's I bought)
-A Pencil
-Booklet printouts of the players book and monsters book for Delving Deeper (My son is a good reader and I figure this sort of reading will help him develop his comprehension rules)
-20 half sized character sheets. I went with Kilgore's S&W character sheets because they have a bigger letter to represent the attributes S for Strength, C for Constitution etc. and the single saving throw box. That and the neat pictures of the sword and axe)
-Barrataria's Adventure's A The Rainbow Lodge which I will be running for him and the rest of my group.
So there you have it. I had so much fun putting it together. It took some effort and cost about $30 for the minis and the adventure module (Barrataria provided the pdf for free but I really wanted that module printed out). Thanks for the ideas and encouragement good people of Dragonsfoot!
