Hi all, I'm a long time lurker on the boards, and finally have a reason to post something...
Does anyone use Slings in Man-To-Man combat? If so what do you use for the To Hit values? I'm inclined to use the short bow, but I feel that the sling should be weaker... I'm wanting to find something to use for my Halfling friends who can only fight in Mass Combat with their slings.

Not sure where you are getting "sling is weaker than shortbow." The rules seem clear to me that 2 hobbits = 3 shortbowmen.
If I were using Man-to-Man then maybe I would have a hobbit slinger attack as shortbow+1?

I meant under normal circumstances I feel they should be weaker. I do realize that when hobbits use slings that they're counted as 3/2 on the missile fire tables.

On what basis are slings weaker to simple bows? That's sounding like piercing apples to bludgeoning oranges. Just count 'em as bows. Slings just take longer to train people in their use.

I hadn't every thought about it in that fashion. I'm still somewhat stuck on the newer ideas of D&D, where Slings deal less damage than Bows and are therefore weaker. The Bludgeoning vs Piercing difference definitely makes sense though.

The Bludgeoning vs Piercing difference definitely makes sense though. No worries. There's actually some pretty neat stuff about slings out there, including debates of their range versus simple bows and the like. Heck, back when the conquistadors were warring up the Americas they discovered the hard way, just how mean large sling rocks are (which could shatter their swords and kill horses with one shot). Of course, those babies were huge by sling stone standards.
