Anyone heard anything at all this past year?
Whats happening with this game? Is it still going to be released?

That's what I'd like to know. I've been waiting for this game for ages. The illustrations and the layout samples that Tom and Al posted were nothing short of fantastic.
After a year of utter silence, still nothing. My biggest fear is that ERB's estate got wind of the production and started to make it legally difficult for the creators. Yes, most of the stories are in the public domain, but that didn't stop them from going after Dynamite comics for their "Warlord Of Mars" series.

It looks like a beta is out. I don't think I'll buy the game until the final rules copy is available, but I'm exited that the game is still coming along. warriorsoftheredplanet.blogspot.com/

I just picked up a copy from Lulu for 4 bucks. For a beta, not bad. I've been think hard about starting this up locally. Using SW complete for any rules questions.

I picked up a copy as well and I'm quite impressed. I've found a couple of minor errors/typos, but it really seems more like a finished game than a beta. To me the WotRP appears to be fairly compatible with B/X, LL or S&W, so it's a good addition if you want to add a bit of science-fantasy to your campaign (which is what I'll probably use it for).

I'm wondering if, to run it on its own, if you need anything else. Its very complete as is. I think it would work on a stand alone basis. I agree, less a Beta more a finished game with a couple errors in it.

I would pick up a copy, but for some reason (I assume size chosen or paper type used or something) it is only printed and shipped from the US and therefore shipping is a whopping £8.99 whereas if it were printed and shipped by one of LULU's UK printers, it would be nearer to £2.99 - £3.99. Would someone who has it give us bit of a low down, to give me an excuse to buy a copy.

Mine arrived, but I'm away from home right now, so I won't be reading it until I get back in a week or so.
When I do I'll write up some thoughts.

Would someone who has it give us bit of a low down, to give me an excuse to buy a copy. It is well worth it. It is a complete game. Not being familiar with ERB work did not put me off from wanting run it. I only bought it because it was 4 bucks on Lulu. Best 4 dollar RPG investment for me in a long time. 4 classes, each with a nice twist on the classics. The races could have used more work, but can be worked with. No traditional magic, but what us used in its place is original, unique and for me a bit surprising. I like it very much. Combat is pretty straight forward but has both Ascending and Descending ACs. There is not a single saving throw mechanic. It is well broken out though. Well explained. The adventure sections are well done. Enough information to build off without feeling like too much. A full third of the book is monsters. Enough to really fill in the areas that you will adventure in. Several appendixes fill out the book. One on adventuring on Mars exclusively, up to this point it could take place on any sword and planet. One deals with adding sorcerer, a la Conan, really widening the available planets to play on. One on adding "magic" items. A whole section on adding airships. Even ship to ship combat. Overall I am very glad I got the book. At the very least there are many ideas worth mining out of it.Complete game in a very small book. Is it worth the money shipping it across the pond? If you like the ERB novels or are looking for a way to play some sword and planet adventures, yes I would buy it. If your just curious, talk someone else into buying it first . It is with it.

My problem is, Goodman Games is doing something very similar under the DCC banner with "Perils of the Purple Planet" - and as somebody else pointed out, a lack of familiarity with ERB's writings is my main concern. Not just for me, but for my players: The main reason why I usually use "vanilla fantasy" as the backdrop to my games is precisely that it's very player-friendly, and everybody knows the basic tropes. That said, Studio Denmark has been on my radar for a while. I hope this is not the last we see of them.

My problem is, Goodman Games is doing something very similar under the DCC banner with "Perils of the Purple Planet" - Even though ERB's Barsoom novels are mentioned as an inspiration for this KS it sounds like it takes more inspiration from Vance's Dying Earth or Planet Adventure. In contrast, Warrior of the Red Planet sounds like it attempts to tackle ERB's work head on. For $4 it's worth checking out even if you would only use it as a source book to pick out bits and pieces.

I'd say so! Good art, solid system, captures JCoM specifically, and planetary romance generally, better than anything else I've seen.
