Why is the XP progression of the barbarian relatively low? I would think it'd be higher.

I went with the progression from the White Dwarf. I tried to keep the power level in line with that, kind of in line with the cleric's. Just eye-balling it, mind you. Nothing scientific. My version is definitely less powerful than the one in Unearthed Arcana with its insane XP requirements.

It's certainly an interesting mix; having the cleric XP progression but fighter HD will put this guy out in front in terms of hit points, but the cleric attack matrix will see him lagging behind the fighter in terms of "to hit" toward the latter game. Which saving throw progression would he then use? Presumably the cleric (I suspect that having fighter saves with cleric XP requirements might be advantageous enough to cancel out the +2 save business)? I'm not sure why crossbows would be disallowed... I guess that's a setting specific detail? The "ferocious attack" feature is almost exactly as per the thief's backstab, except that the barbarian only needs to have initiative, while the thief has to have surprise, so the barbarian version is a bit more deadly. I would be inclined to limited this feature to "man-types", because wild animals won't have the same assumptions/prejudice as men. A great read thanks @ilvarin; certainly worth further consideration especially around that interesting fighter/cleric progression

I agree with WotE. I did the same thing a while back with the white dwarf barbarian. But I ended up not using it. I didn't want to make too many extra sub classes and just told my group that barbarian is a culture and not really a class. But if somebody insisted on one with special powers I keep that just in case. But so far no has really.

Since I'm already grousing about DD today... How about expressing your idea here rather than driving traffic to your blog? I'm not trying to "drive" anyone anywhere. I don't especially need traffic at my blog, since it isn't monetized in any way. I was just trying to share something I came up with, maybe somebody else would find it interesting and want to talk about it some. I enjoy talking gaming and bouncing my ideas off like-minded folks.
