The DDNext (beta) text is now available for download here: forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=113 Aside from a thousand minor edits for readability and half a dozen proper spelling/grammar corrections, the main changes since the alpha are: By popular demand: * Wisdom no longer affects languages. Instead it affects the prime requisite for the purpose of determining XP bonus (as in M&M), * Cleric spells are no longer reversible. The anti-spells are for anti-clerics only, And also: * Added definitions of man-, normal-, heroic-, and superheroic-types, * Used "normal-type" etc. throughout instead of "fewer than 7 HD", "3 or more HD" and the like, * Added rules for overbearing (from the FAQ), * Added one missing monster and three missing magic-item descriptions. The beta text is now heading off to a professional proof reader, but in the meanwhile any comments are welcome of course. Enjoy

Cleric spells are no longer reversible. The anti-spells are for anti-clerics only. I like that. I prefer to think of (1974 rules's) clerics and anti-clerics as pretty much two different classes: Clerics must be lawful and worship The Man Upstairs. Their level titles are different than those of anti-clerics. They have a very different spell list than do anti-clerics. They can turn undead. Anti-clerics must be chaotic and worship Old Scratch. Their level titles are different than those of clerics. They have a very different spell list than do clerics. They have no effect upon undead.

DD has always had clerics and anti-clerics as separate classes. Previous iterations of DD allowed clerics to use the reversed clerical spells for lawful purposes (or risk being turned to an anti-cleric for misuses) because the 3LBBs states in two places that clerics (as opposed to evil high priests) can use the finger of death (the reversed raise dead) spell. However, by consensus I've changed it to the more popular interpretation for the hardback edition

The first boo-boo in the beta text has been found! In the fighter description the 2nd sentence of the 2nd para should read: It's a good thing the whole document is being proofed by professionals

The beta version of DDNext has now been "through the wringer" of professional proofreading. Despite it having been proofread by five of us gamer-type people (including me) the pros suggested over 3,000 changes. I've painstakingly reviewed every individual change, and applied 379 of them to the text -- the remainder being "optional" changes of word choice or phrasing, or the addition of "optional" commas (622 of these!). The result of all this is the DDNext (gamma) text which is now available for download here: forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=113 This will be the final pre-press release of the text. I still want to hear about any issues you may find with it of course, but the next "official revision" of the text will be the hard copy (with or without further changes). Enjoy ~!

Well, it's possible that, while technically correct, a sentence, paragraph, or document can, frequently, be made more cumbersome, rather than less so, by overuse of commas.
