(This is a summary of my first G+ Carcosa session. the second session is this next Sunday, from 2:00 - 5:00 CST. Drop me a PM if you are interested in joining us online.)
Burlap, an Ulfire man (Daveinacave), and Gnaktik (Shane), a Brown man, are part of a group of eight slaves that are 'borrowed' from a slave master's caravan by Dendrath (a Purple man), who drives them over several days to a hill in the middle of the wastelands of Carcosa. Arriving at the hill during the night, Burlap and Gnaktik are dragged to the top of the hill by Dendrath and three of his guards. There is a bonfire at the top of the hill, lit by a blue man in sleeveless black robes, bearing a staff. He is bald, with strange geometric runes tattooed on his head. Addressed by Dendrath as Ysgorrl, he offer his slaves as potential sacrifices. Ysgorrl expresses his disappointment in the slaves (he seeks Red or Orange Men) by summoning B'yakhee from the sky to devour Dendrath and his men.
Burlap and Gnaktik flee down the hill, where they attempt to kill the remaining three guards of the other slaves. A simple ruse is devised, but fails to keep Burlap from dying by a spear through his abdomen. One guard flees, and the other two die horribly at the hands of the slaves.
There is some scrounging of weapons and gear, and the ex-slaves set out to the Northwest. Dave's new character is Scab of the Underbrush, who had previously worshipped Burlap as the Sanguine Messiah, and was bitterly disappointed to find his savior bleeding out and stone dead.
They came to a gigantic sinkhole, over a mile across from which emitted grey mists which provoked visions of 14 statues, the thirteen races of Carcosa and a Snake man. Scab claimed that there was an underground chamber under the fourth statue.
They traveled around the sinkhole until they came to some hills where Scab claimed a sorcerer laired, by the name of Night of Spring. After a short night of rest they searched the next day for his lair, finding a half-buried obsidian tower in the hills. They first attempted to go in through the top, but were dissuaded by the organic sounds of sliding in the darkness of the upper chamber. They next attempted to roll away the stone blocking the entrance at the bottom of the tower, and were failing until a worm-like gray appendage helped them move the stone from the interior of the tower. All the NPC slaves failed their save, and immediately fled. The remaining Carcosans attacked it immediately, and the appendage withdrew before moving the stone completely away from the door.
A hollow voice, which identified itself as Night of Spring, then parleyed with them to recover a smoky glass from the ruins of the snake-men in the swamps of the south. NoS also claimed it might be found in any of the ruins of the 'Elder Ones' (snake-men). He offered arms, armor and possibly knowledge in exchange for this task. He often had to stop to cough, as if he had a great amount of phlegm at the back of his throat. The players agreed, and spent the rest of the day scouring the low, wet places in the hills for grubs, insects, edible lichen and fungus.
The next morning, from a high place in the hills, they observed a line of statues a mile away to the south. These were the statues as they appeared in Scab's vision, and the fourth statue had a cleft in the base which led to a vast cave, over 100' wide and 65' deep. A spiral path snaked around the pit to the bottom, and many small caves opened up in the side of the path. The scent of the place seemed almost 'homey', even though its source was mixed excrement, urine and sweat. The caves themselves seemed almost 'homey' and inviting in a weird way.
In the first cave slept three creatures, who resembled white, furry apes with weird pink skin, and human-like eyes. The Carcosans blew their Stealth rolls, and the ape-things awoke, screaming at the intrusion. All round the pit, from the caves lining the walls, came answering screams...
XP 80 (40 each for Dave and Shane) 15 for enemies and 65 for equipment.
