Here is an online game very similar to the Dogma PbP I ran here a few months ago. Basically, you're an adventurer in a random dungeon based upon the AD&D tables. I've played it and it's a lot of fun! You can save your PC and return to him later, retire him after accumulating 1,000 GP of treasure, or keep playing until he walks through the Pearly Gates. Here are the links: this one to the game and this one to the PDF of the rules.

Love the art!
I've already been attacked by a skeleton brandishing a deadly fishing pole

I've died in this game many times, it is great. So I fall into a pit, down to 1 HP. Then the room descends to level 3, I wander around up to level 2, then 1! But it slides me back down to 2..(w)ander aimlessly

This game is quite brilliant and the village building aspect adds a fun reason to trudge on in the dungeons. I'm very unlucky with the fishing part though, I always get attacked by sea serpents!

This game is brilliant and actually has me looking at those random gen tables in a new light. gronkthebold- you need a +1 or even a +2 fishing pole to foil the sea serpents BTW- only an avid Dungeon Robber gamer would know this, but you have to retire adventurers at each level to open more buying options. Seriously, I accidently discovered this

Seriously, I accidently discovered this I realized this after the third encounter with the blighters, but now I summon them from the depths just for fun and as a break to the many empty chambers I encounter. I'm up to Bishop in terms of vacancies closed and I've had a lot of fun so far!

Brave Dan retires at level 3 to become an inkeeper making recruitable henchmen available. Clubfoot Cleo retires at level x to do x in the village making x class available.

I recruited some henchmen at 25 gp, after spending 100 gp for a town cryer. Unfortunately, your henchmen seem to be the first targets when you have an encounter. Not sure they will be making it into my 401k as a good retirement investment (:

I'm playing dead is dead on advanced mode. It is an interesting experiment to see if it's possible to get to a decent level playing BtB. To compare live games and success with something like this, are your DM's going easy on you? Or do you have a graveyard full of unsuccessful PC's before your currently lucky PC who's gotten a few levels under his belt?
Is BtB d&d unplayable? We shall see. I just managed to retire an unclassed PC at level 1 and opening up a merchant store, I think the game will get a bit easier once I can chose a thief aka proper classed character.
The "Advanced" and "Basic" mode are actually backwards, 0d&d mode compared to Ad&d as the stats are lower than ad&d (only one good stat instead of two) and hit points are lower (no max at level 1 stuff).
Considering the lethality of my 1 on 1 games, dungeon robber seems about right. This is why (apropos the other thread on combat taking longer at high levels), I feel lethality should decrease as you gain in levels, which it does.
Is anyone taking the time to map out the dungeon as it's being described? With further consideration, you don't technically get to start as 1st level until your town has weapons armor and henchmen available to buy so death will be more common than d&d until you've unlocked a few things.

I accidently found out that while playing a cleric, go to the graveyard before entering the dungeon and it gives you the option to cast animate dead. Free undead henchman!

Dang - I just discovered this a couple weeks back on a link from the Frugal DM blog and have been having a blast with it - I had no idea there was a PDF of the rules! WOOT.
The Dungeon Robber "board game" would go great with Searchers Of The Unknown, you know.

Me and the Mrs. were briefly obsessed with this game. We got over it because of the trap that auto kills you if you're wearing platemail.

Belated thanks for doing this. I got hooked on this game a while back. I did pretty well in the Basic game, but I never got past level 5 or 6 in the Advanced version.
