Why is there no Blackmarsh forums? Was not Blackmarsh an earlier campaign setting..even before Blackmoor? I play Dungeon Crawl Classics and use Blackmarsh as the campaign setting. Both the game and campaign seting are old school and fit well together. We need more Blackmarsh love www.rpgnow.com/product/89944/Blackmarsh

Blackmarsh is an entirely new and original setting created a couple years ago as a tribute to Dave Arneson's Blackmoor. Blackmoor originated in 1971 as a fantasy setting inspired by Dave Wesely's Napoleonic era Braunstein game setting.

Maybe this should have been a request for a sub-forum for discussing Dungeon Crawl Classics here? I need a lot more convincing before I buy that...

Here's the original map Town MapAs play expanded beyond the town and dungeon, more of the surrounding countryside known as "The Northern Marches" was created, of which the Duchy of Blackmoor was a part. The Northern Marches was set within a small section of "The Great Kingdom" map used by the Castle and Crusades society. The Great Kingdom was originally a wargaming map.

I may move this to the "Delving Deeper" section, as Blackmarsh is (if I recall correctly) being packaged with the DD boxed set. As Alderron mentioned, Dave's Blackmoor campaign goes back to 1971 or so. The Bat in the Attic blog gives a "just released" entry for Blackmarsh in April of 2011. Blackmoor edges out Blackmarsh by roughly four decades. Havard's Blog has some stuff about this, and Rob Conley has responded to some conversation there. A review and some of the history of Blackmarsh is mentioned at Grognardia. More information can be found here. Having said all that, I might consider a Blackmarsh sub-forum if we get enough discussion for it. Rob Conley is a great guy who sometimes posts here and I wouldn't begrudge some space if "the will of the people" demand it. I really hate to make a sub-forum based on just a thread or two, but if we get enought of 'em.....

I was sort of hoping that gamers would discover Blackmoor through Blackmarsh...

Sorry for missing this earlier. But yeah Blackmarsh is very new. Inspired by Blackmoor and the map developed by a method that Dave probably used to make his Blackmoor map. A link to the blog post about making the map. batintheattic.blogspot.com/2009/10/introducing-blackmarsh.htmlI wouldn't mind a separate Blackmarsh forum. While I initially offered it as part of Delving Deeper it is also its own product. Perhaps as subforum of a more general Hexcrawl Setting forum. Glad you getting some good use out of the product!

Was not Blackmarsh an earlier campaign setting..even before Blackmoor? That would be a fun misconception to propagate.

Well you signed on for the grief when you bought the rights for Blackmarsh from the same company that published Encounter Critical in 1979.
