As usual... My question- Will there be a printed version of the DD rules for sale through some other outfit than BHP? ( nothing personal to John, but I did not have agood experience at all with BHP and the SW:WB stuff a couple years ago- I do not want to do any further business with the company). However,.I LOVE the DD pdfs. I redownloaded the updated versions over the weekend and I feel this is the best white box interpretation yet from not only a rules standpoint, but in the way it is written (most clones suffer IMO). So anything in the works? Or am I going to have to live with PDfs?

I'm under the impression that the BHP box sets, or at least the pre-orders, have to be finished shipping before the publishing shifts into new hands. (Immersive Ink?)
I'm still waiting on a box set myself, for over 2 years now, but the real reason I would like the order completed is that it will pave the way for a nice, digest sized hardback (hopefully).

Thanks for the FYI!
Is there any official word about this?

Hi jeffb, and thanks for your interest in Delving Deeper. I'm Simon; I'm the editor and co-author of DD, and I produced the DD Ref Rules PDFs which I think you referred to, above. Yes, I'm currently working toward on a single volume, hard cover edition of the DD rules. There was some discussion about this on these boards here a few months back when I started getting organised. Since then, there has been a little chat about the physical dimensions etc. on the DD Google+ group. The upshot of it is that: . It will be a section sewn hardback. . It will have wrap around front and back cover art. . It will very probably be crown quatro sized (7" x 9.5"). . It will be illustrated by Jim Holloway, Mark Allen, and Timothy Ide. . It will be a low volume, high quality product, so unfortunately it won't be cheap. I have a US printer lined up, and I am in discussion with two US distributors (note that I am based in Australia). The existing DD Ref Rules have been revised after another round of proofing, and numerous small errors and inconsistencies will be corrected in the hardback. Most importantly, the spell lists will be nearer to the original source s. There is considerable work to do, and I am just one guy with all the usual real life commitments, so as of today there is no "official" release date to look forward to. I'm pushing ahead as quickly as I'm able. I tend to post remarks about my progress on the Google+ group, but I'll be sure to post any major milestones here as well. Thanks again for your interest; I hope the above helps some

I'm still kind of confused about the differences in the DD rules sets. There's the boxed version from Brave Halfling--but there are the Reference Rules in PDF form that have some changes from the boxed version--and the upcoming single-volume hardback that will contain further changes to the Reference Rules.
Once the hardback is out, if I sit down and compare the boxed set rules to the hardback rules, how much change in the system is there actually going to be? Will this make the Brave Halfing rules the "OE", and the hardback rules the "Basic"?

The changes are mostly errata. Those that aren't just made the game get closer to ODnD and Chainmail in my opinion.

I'm still kind of confused about the differences in the DD rules sets. Hi stevemitchell, there is really only one Delving Deeper and it's based wholly on the OD&D rules (as presented in the 3LBBs + Chainmail + Outdoor Survival + the FAQ + a very few other bits from The Strategic Review and other sources). The current versions of Delving Deeper are: 1. DD Ref Rules v1 (PDF only) Three booklets. 2. BHP's DD Boxed Set (hard copy and PDF) . Same text as Ref Rules v1 but illustrated and presented in five booklets instead of three. . I believe some sets also included the v1 errata sheet. 3. DD Ref Rules v2 (PDF only) . Same text as Ref Rules v1, but with the v1 errata sheet integrated into the text. . The errata sheet was also available separately for those who wanted to review the changes. That is all there is to date but I'm currently working on the next iteration, which will be: 4a. DD Ref Rules v3 (PDF, HTML online, and plain text) . Same text as Ref Rules v2, but with the v2 errata sheet integrated into the text. and also... 4b. DD Hardcover (hard copy and PDF) . Same text as Ref Rules v3, but illustrated and presented in a single volume instead of three booklets. I hope that helps

Thanks very much, Ways. That really does help. And I will be very interested in the hardcover edition when that comes out.

Just curious: Are you going to release the v3 ref rules *before* the hardcover? And I think I've said before that it's awesome to have a plain text version, especially if that one gets promoted to "oracle of truth" status for DD. Way to got, Ways! :-)

Just curious: Are you going to release the v3 ref rules *before* the hardcover? I haven't given the release schedule much thought just yet (too much else to do), but just off the top of my head I think I will try release them all about the same time. We'll see how it pans out in reality closer to the time...

How do we make sure we're in the loop on this and can order one? Simon has been doing a fine job keeping us apprised of news here. There is also a Google Group dedicated to Delving Deeper. Between the two, you should be in pretty good shape.

How do we make sure we're in the loop on this and can order one? I've been posting semi-regular updates on the DD Google+ group, so you could listen in there if you're interested. On the other hand, I will also post any milestone news here, so it's up to you. It's worth noting that other folks post some interesting DD stuff on Google+ intermittently too. The latest update update on the hardback edition is that I'll be releasing a free alpha version of the hardback text for review in the relatively near future (subject to real life demands). The text itself is actually ready to go -- but I still need to add the credits and update half a dozen or so tables. I'll make a more official post about this when it's ready for download. As for ordering the hardback, don't worry too much. There is presently no official release date, but once it has been printed you'll be able to order it from one of the major online distributors. That's where I'll be getting my copy too I'll be giving the free text version a month or so in circulation to shake out any last minute bugs/errors before it goes to press, 'cos there's no going back once it's in print! Hope that's the info you needed

You'll have to accept this written EXALT! in place of a "real" one.

Are there going to be any changes from v2? any hints if so? There are at least enough changes to the text to warrant a preview version going out The main points I can think of are: 1) The spell lists have been revised, and this is probably the single most noticeable change. The spell lists are now closer to original + a few additions from the strategic review (the additional spells from GH have been removed). DD still bows to the SRD for spell names and levels in a few places, 2) The cleric's spell per day progression is now closer to original, 3) A number of spells (maybe a dozen or so) were revised to be closer to the original, 4) Fighter/monster multiple attacks is further clarified, 5) Morale is further clarified, 6) All duration are now in "turns", and ranges in "inches", 7) Random wilderness hex generation is made closer to Outdoor Survival's terrain/feature frequencies, 8) The random encounter tables are extended so that (virtually) all described monsters can occur. And obviously the whole thing is now a single volume, so that required a bit of overall reshuffling. Yes, the amendments are more numerous than I originally imagined, but I believe that "DDNext" (what I've been calling the hardback edition) will be the clearest, tightest and truest iteration of DD yet.

I'm not promising, but I'm hoping to finish it this weekend. We'll see... Real life trumps as usual, so I didn't quite finish it. I've sent the credits page off to the original DD team for review, and aside from that I've got about half of the aerial exploration section to go, and the examples. I'm now thinking I'll release the alpha text without the examples so folks can get it sooner. We'll see how I go. Bed time now... I'm zonked
