I'd like to keep the IC threads limited, as much as possible, to actions and speech. Short OOC asides are ok there but any major digressions or metagaming chats should end up here.

That's great!
I modified my PC with skills and equipment. Please, look it over and tell me what corrections need to be made.

Eris,
I am trying to bang out the details on the three systems in the Consortium and then I'll have a look at your character.

Eris, that does seem kinda weird that the rules say that if a skill shows up in both your background package and training package, you gain it at Level 1 instead of Level 0, and then in the very next paragraph they ban that practice for skills that have specialties.
Then I looked a little further and noticed the rule doesn't actually say anything about background packages. It only says you cannot duplicate a skill already on the training package list. I wonder if the actual rule is only for certain situations, like Pilot, where the training package gives you Vehicle/Any and Vehicle/Space and they don't want you to take Vehicle/Space twice.
So I'm going to rule that you could take Culture/Spacer twice and Vehicle/Space twice if you wanted.
If you want to take Culture/World, it has to be a specific world within the Sector (like Elysium or Corinth). See the System Information thread for more details. I don't have details on the Union worlds up yet but I hope to soon.
Otherwise, you have the correct level of detail for your skills and your equipment purchases look good.
Once you make edits as per the above, post your completed PC in the Characters thread. Make sure you note which equipment is "readied" vs. "stowed".

premmy, shouldn't you have more ammo? 13 clips, not 11?
Otherwise, this looks fine. You just need to choose a homeworld. And a name, I suppose.
Everyone is from King Sector. You get to choose the planet within King Sector that you're from.

gronk:
Mercenary also comes with Perception and Tactics. This will give you Skill Level 1 in Perception, as it's in both your Background and Training Packages.
I've got you as spending 475 of 600 credits, leaving you with 125 remaining, not 195. What am I missing?
Revolver (x2) - 100 TL4 Backpack - 50 Ammo (x5) - 50 Rations (x14) - 70 Monoblade - 50 Thermal Flare - 5 Climbing Harness - 50 Metal Plate - 100

As far as languages are concerned, there is a common language across all of the known systems called Terran. Everyone speaks it fluently.
You may come across other languages as you explore the Sector and, if your INT gives you extra slots for languages learned, you can take the time to learn them.

Also, the changes in skills will be duly noted and I will update the character sheet to reflect this. Thanks a million for the corrections!

premmy, shouldn't you have more ammo? 13 clips, not 11? I'm not quite sure, how do you figure? The only ammo item I can find on the equipment list describes a single "portion" as having 20 bullets regardless of clip size. Bought a bunch of those and broke it down to magazines of 6 for my gun. But I guess I may have made a mistake, I'm sure you're right. As for homeworld, I'm thinking Nirvana. With all the mining going down on the surface, there's bound to be some opportunity for bandits and other outlaws to peck at the spoils and try to sell them elsewhere, so he could be from there.

st4tic:
Looking over your PC post...
Can you put your attributes in the standard STR, INT, WIS, DEX, CON, CHR order for me? It's confusing when yours are out of order.
INT should only be 16 (6+4+6)
There are a bunch of places where you've misspelled words. Can you try to clean that up a bit, please? I'm not going to come down too harshly on this sort of thing but it's going to drive me nuts to see you misspell "pilot" all the time. If it helps, I use the Firefox Web browser and it automatically IDs misspelled words. When you right-click on the word, the correct spelling shows up almost all the time. Quick and painless.
I'll assume you have one clip of 12 bullets in the chamber of the semi-auto pistol but don't forget that you don't have any other ammo readied.
By my count, you only spent 480 credits and have 20 left over.
No extra skill points for having a high INT.
From a rules perspective, I would say you should stick with your skills even if they don't fit your character's background. Just because you're a trained Vehicle/Space pilot doesn't mean you've actually done it. Much easier to say you've been on ships and know the spacer drill, and have clocked a lot of hours on a trainer, but you never got a shot at actually flying a rig.

I took a closer look at the encumbrance rules and wanted to clarify a couple of things.
gronk - you have a STR of 14 so you can carry 7 readied items before becoming at least Lightly Encumbered. Right now, you have the sword (1), two revolvers (1 each), and metal plate (2) for a total of 5. Which means you can have another two ammo clips readied (the clips already loaded into the guns don't count separately so ignore them).
st4tic - I'm going to rule that glowbugs and thermal flares don't count against the readied item total, since they don't have encumbrance. However, because Type A cells do have encumbrance, they count as one readied item each. You can only have three cells readied; the fourth one will make you Lightly Encumbered.

Interesting that no one wants to play a Psychic. Looks like we have two Warriors and three Experts, with Cameron having professed an interest in playing an Expert as well.
I don't know that it makes that much of a difference but you guys may want to see if anyone is willing to retcon their Expert and take Tech/Medical.
Either that or buy a few more Lazarus patches.
Or don't get shot. Ever.

That's my plan! I thought about going for a psychic, but didn't have the stats. (or didn't think I had the stats...) But if you really want to see a psychic in action, I could reconsider...

coffee:
I care less about you guys having a psychic and more about you having some ability to heal.
There's also the slight problem with having two Experts who are pilots. Chances are, there's only going to be one ship to fly.
Making your PC into a Psychic would be relatively easy. You can drop 4 points out of CHR and put them into CON. That leaves you with 14 CON and 13 CHR. Then you can automatically bump your WIS from 5 to 14, since it's a Prime Attribute. If you did that, and added your "6" to STR so it was 11 instead of 6, you'd have a pretty well rounded character. Even though that 17 looks cool, it's the same +2 benefit as a 14.
If you wanted to stick with Expert, you could "roll your own" with the Adventuring Expert training package and just make sure you selected Tech/Medical as one of your skills.

Descriptions of all of the known systems are complete now. Makofan and I will be working on Factions and the introductory hooks while you guys finish up your PCs.
I envision getting started in earnest right after the July 4th holiday, although we may begin "setting the stage" earlier that week.

Okay, I've modified my character to give us a bit of medical skill. Also the Postech my engineer had, and a bit of bureaucracy which never hurts!
Hope he'll be more useful to the group.

Question: is the City of Gold thread there for storing information (locations etc.), or is it going to be the play thread, and you've just established a scene? If the latter, can we start posting?
