Love that after 8 years, this thread still keeps getting bumped.
My fave retroclone. Wonderfully playable as written, and the best "create your own vision of the 1970s style FRPG" framework out there.

I might be starting! I had no idea that our very own admin had anything to do with it. I happened to be watching Captcorajus on YouTube and came across his video for White Box, and now I’m very interested.
My fifteen month old son has become very interested in pulling things off my shelf, and the other day he went straight for my OD&D white box 5th print, and I had a mini heart attack. The collectors items are going to have to find a new home, and I was looking for something to play.
I’ve never been into the OSR clones, but from the video I saw this looked like exactly what I was looking for. There are some friends that have been curious about TTRPGs for a while, and I’ve been itching to start an open table / “always on” game.
Whitebox seems to be the answer to all of my problems. Easily organized, streamlined, sounds like a dream come true.

Easily organized, streamlined, sounds like a dream come true. My son-in-law bought a copy of WB last weekend at GaryCon. I had to explain to him that I get zero money from the thing and I that I could give him an actual White Box (in a real white box; the Brave Halfling version) since I have a couple stashed in my closet. He bought one anyway. What he found is my favorite version, the White Box: Fantastic Midieval Adventure Game with layout by Charlie Mason. It's a good deal and a great game to play! I also like the fact that WBFMAG isn't a "collectable" and you can always buy another if the first one gets trashed. (Under $5 on Amazon.)

9 years now.
Glad people are still discovering WB!

9 years now. Glad people are still discovering WB! I assume you mean 9 years for the thread. The game was first released in 2009, so around 13 years for the WB. Both are amazing numbers.

Marv,
Number one - I hope you’re proud (as you should be), and I’m happy to read you dig Charlie’s iteration as favorably as you do. It is indeed what WB deserved all along, I feel.
Number two - Your son bought a copy of WB:FMAG at a con? Interesting. Who was selling it, I wonder? Charlie has been pretty quiet over the last couple of years. More’s the pity. Though…it’s not as if it needs any fixing. It’s finally complete and also the “evergreen” product Matt mentioned it to be many years back.
Number three - Thanks again for it. It was actually how I discovered 3LBB-only OD&D at all…back in ‘09, despite decades of being into old school D&D. 🙂 (but I’d still rather use WB:FMAG or at least the last printing of S&W:WB from BHP, than the original booklets. Heheh)
Cheers!

I watched this week's Tenkars Tavern Youtube vid with Matt Finch - he mentioned that after Mythmere Games release the new Complete they may do something with Core and Whitebox

That's interesting. I was under the impression that Light and Continual Light took the place of WB and Core in the lineup. Maybe that was a FGG thing.

I will be running White Box shortly. I use WB and the White Box Companion (known as Supplemental Lore for S&W Core). As these cover everything I need (plus I use things off of my own blog) and a few bits from here and there. We were playing BoL and had a messy TPK, but the group had fun.

"White Box, Black Blade" Oooo! Yeah, man! Arioch is watching and waiting! Also reminds me of how, in the earliest days of S&W:WB, (about 2009-2010) I wanted to do a very simple Barsoom-inspired rule set I was going to call “White Box Red Planet”. Heheh
