Whilst the partnership with Cubicle 7 has helped BoL reach a far wider audience than would have been possible on my own in the last three years, I've decided to review my options for BBGs best-selling role playing game. To this end, the partnership between Beyond Belief Games and Cubicle 7 to print and distribute Barbarians of Lemuria has been terminated. Cubicle 7 will continue to sell remaining stocks (so get them quick if you want a copy!) but once they're gone, they're gone. At the moment, I don't know what's next for BoL. Maybe a new super-improved edition, with all-new art and incorporating some of the changes that have been suggested on various forums and elsewhere? If that's the case, I will probably be looking into the possibility of a new partnership with an established publisher; so if anyone has an interest, I'd be willing to talk. PM me. I don't know what the future of BoL will be, but in the meantime, look out for BoL through LULU again in the coming months. Lulu does some lovely hardcover books and it's always been a shame that BoL wasn't available for the last three years in hardcover. I'd like to at least remedy that.

Wow, that's quite an announcement. As a huge BoL fan, I'm excited to see what's in store for the game!

A hardback would be a nice addition to the collection, an updated version even more so. I hope you get another publisher to come on board Simon.

Any news on the Portuguese edition? I've been DMing this in Brazil and people are anxiously waiting for this edition.

I want this game. Now that my AS&SH is done and published, I'm ready to give BoL a good reading. Because it is so thematically close to what I'd been working on, I didn't want it to influence my designs and development. Looking forward to what the future holds . . .

Simon, I hope that a new publisher appears quickly. A new, updated, edition would be perfect for BoL. Currently I have a folder of material from the forums of the material I've wanted to work into future adventures. A hard cover would also be most welcome. It will go well with my other hardbacks. I hope nothing but the best for BoL in the future and look forward to seeing the other products which will be based on it.

I own the pdf, but I'd love to see a lulu-version available, in either hard or softcover...

The publisher has disappeared so I'm not sure what's happening with it now... That's sad to hear. Is their license still valid? Or other publishers could try to get it and publish here? BTW, I would love a new edition with more art, more options, hard cover and stuff. Why not make a kickstarter?

Any chance of you adding the POD option to OBS sites? Should be possible since you already have the PDF for sale there.

Print on demand is a good quick solution, but I think with a Kickstarter BoL could reach even more people and get a even better treatment, revision, new art, option rules, maybe a psionic system, quick hacks and modules.
I am playing a campaign in the Hyborean Age and everyone is really enjoying and thinking how to use the system in other scenarios, even Wild West!

Dicey Tales #1 has a pulp variant and a western variant (Guns of Laredo) is slated for a future issue. There is also Dogs of W*A*R - 1970's/80's mens action adventures, Honor & Intrigue (swashbuckling) and a bunch of others on the way.

Yeah, I know there are a couple of hacks already available, but what if the Kickstarter offered them together with the basic BoL deluxe, hardcover edition as a stretch goal? Maybe a Sci-fi hack too?
I am really excited about the Cavalier of Mars that will use BoL system for Barsoom like adventures.

I am really excited about the Cavalier of Mars that will use BoL system for Barsoom like adventures. Regrettably, many of the hacks aren't mine, so that might be difficult to achieve. However, I could add in a few pages that talks about using the BoL rules for other genres/settings, with some hints and tips on how to achieve this. There are a couple of s/f hacks in the works. Can't say much more at the moment because they are still in the early stages. There is also a "supers" bol early draft available on my website.

Someone on the "Lords of Lemuria" site posted remarks about doing a BOL hack for Moldvay Basic D&D. That would be pretty cool to include with a new and expanded BOL.

This is great. But I think I will wait for the possible "new" edition. I have the paperback and PDF from Cubicle 7. I hope we see a new and expanded edition soon!

Simon, BoL, in my estimation, is the best S&S rules available; simple, innovative, and atmospheric. I have been running it for several years (with large doses of house rules - I house rule everything). It was BoL that introduced my gaming community to the OSR. I just wanted to say that my players and I would support BoL in a kickstarter or in whatever direction you take it. I would love to see the game grow. Just please, please don't let it die.

Think I GM'd the first play by post on the BoL forums (have there been any since?) and have to say, for pbp it's an excellent, lite system and so easy for players to cook up a character it'd be a real shame if you didn't uprate and expand/revise it, with improved art and so on. With this in mind Kickstarter would probably be the way forward in my opinion. Boxed set? With a module, a gazetteer style booklet detailing a country and various adventure seed/options, a monster manual type book, GMs screen, map and some nice dice? Hardback tome with more of everything, including a generic fantasy/high fantasy setting so if players weren't struck on Lemuria it could easily be used for a generic D&D/Runequest style dungeon/wilderness romp. With or without Elves. Obviously, artwork could be improved, with full colour, glossy pages, fancy limited edition hardcover (leather bound?) big (huge?) map and worldbook, modules, modules, modules... Sure, sounds like lots of work, but I haven't come across a forum where BoL has been poorly received. Does what many other games do with half the mechanics and some nice tweaks of its own. Depends on how much of your life you want to sink into it Simon, and a KS will gauge interest/pay upfront for the game. Plus any extra gets a bigger print run to put it in the shops or pays your mortgage off (? )

Those ideas seem very nice. I really hope we see something like this.
Btw, if there is anything I could do to help, let me know.
