Excellent. I just put the final touches on my 3,600 word piece. Inspired by Benoist Poire, and with some able suggestions from Colin Chapman, I put together the CRYOMANCER subclass, a sorcerer who masters the control and manipulation of snow, ice, and arctic winds. This new class is intended for use with AS&SH, but is easily adapted to other traditional fantasy RPGs. The article contains the class, 15 new spells, 1 new monster, and 1 new magic item. I had a lot of fun with this.
My word, I've been acting as a printer, shipper, and spread sheet jockey for too many months now, and it felt good to get typing on some fresh RPG material with a tight deadline. Special thanks to RJK for alerting me to AFS, and thanks to Scott for welcoming me aboard. ~Cheers, Jeff T.

@ Ghul - Does the "Cry"-omancer shed tears of ice? Sounds "cool". Hope to read it while eating a "berg"-er Joking aside, it really sounds neat, Mr. J. Ghul! Looking forward to it!

Any chance of doing a subscription for future issues? Hi, would like to do that, but the publishing schedule has been erratic enough thus far that I wouldn't want to commit. On another note, I believe AFS #2 will have 67 weight cardstock (illustrated) front and back covers which will be a cosmetic improvement (ivory, non -gloss) . Also the pages will be double sided. Awesome to have Ghul's submission

Hope to read it while eating a "berg"-er I should suspect you'd be an expert in all things cold, seeing as how you were born in the Ice Age! Zing! ;D Indeed, and looking forward to it. I was going through some of my stuff a few nights ago and I bumped into Black Festival. I read the first few pages so far and look forward to reading more tonight.

Others will not stand a *snowball's* chance in southern Hyperboria! As for Black Festival, it's my one contribution to Swords & Sorcery, though I had other stories outlined for Wolfar. I much preferred writing in the weird vein ala 'Smith. I wrote "The Flight of Marloc" many moons ago, but then the story was lost along with many other literary artifacts in a combination fire/thievery episode in 1989. Cheers Ghul!

Editors note: AFS Issue#1 is now sold out (last 2 copies I had went to Irvine CA & Madison WI). Also, got the covers printed today for AFS issue#2 on 67weight cardstock, non-glossy ivory. I am happy with the way they turned out . Not sure if the pic will do it justice..

Yeah. He "adores" Dore. Yes, yea verily My favorite magazine is the now defunct Weirdbook. (The Etelven Thios story featured in AFS #2 was originally printed in Weirdbook #15 from 1981, the author has given me permission to re-print it here, (thanks to him for that) What I am hoping to do in some small fashion is to have this zine emulate it's look & feel. At least its a direction I am striving for

Editor's notes: 1. AFS Issue #2 layout is complete! Hoping to get the printing and binding done by Monday or Tuesday and start shipping the pre-orders. Pretty stoked at the content & look of it 2. The zine is coming in at a Big 46 pages with a cardstock front & back cover, thus I have figured out I am going to need to charge $6.00 ($11.00 International) includes zine + shipping moving forward to make sure I at least break even more comfortably. Those that have already pre-ordered at $5 ($10 International') no problem no worries at all, that's the advantage of pre-ordering. 3. I ended up printing a handful more of Issue #1 and there is an option to order both (total for this would be $11 domestic, $21 International) Thanks for your support and I will look to post a pic of the completed product soon Orders can be placed via paypal by sending the appropriate amount to srmoberly @ yahoo.com

Naught did it cervid him well, The silly "bone head" To run like hell To avoid being bled! For in the road Was he struck by Big Bill Boread's Rusty old ice truck (Ah, missed this) Dear North Easterly Ghul, Lord of unchallenged vaunts and eventual haunts. Having deciphered the recent Deery Declination, and this in relation to the aforementioned truck, I have deduced a parallel realty which produced said side-swiped buck-aroo. It seems that the adjoining land that produced it was in fact Big Bill Boread's Brother's, who in a fit of epilepsy attendant upon his over-swilling ponderous amounts of the self-named 'shine, was caught unaware by the horned intruder in a veritable state of ecstatic hallucination; and having interpreted the event as the coming of Lucifer, took to all methods possible to vex the visitor, this after pulling his pants up amid many other less frightful gesticulations. Afrightened, our intrepid intruder leapt before its puissant pursuer and onto said bypass whereat Bill was at that time bringing in another load of swill, thus clobbering both the truck and dear deery. Both BB's were later arrested for multiple reasons relating to the matter overall. Cheers! El Raja Kook.

I was waiting to update my blog, until I had an actual zine copy produced and printed so I could show the actual product. I have tomorrow off so my hope is to have that accomplished by then or possibly Tuesday (and then the pre-orders will ship also). As MLK once said, how long? not long....

I've been meaning to ask: why exactly is it called AFS? I don't see any explanation in any of the blog posts or threads here or elsewhere.

I've been meaning to ask: why exactly is it called AFS? I don't see any explanation in any of the blog posts or threads here or elsewhere. Note: All pre-orders will be shipped today! The more recent batch of orders I have recieved will ship Wednesday or Thursday. Hi cadriel. To answer your question: I had originally started this magazine in collaboration with another friend in Houston. We both had an interest in history, war history and political history as well as old school gaming. The original concept for the zine was for it to be old school gaming content and also feature a few articles on events in history. AFS stands for Anti-fascist gaming society. ie. we had an article on the death and hanging of Mussolini, the Spanish civil war and the fascist falange etc. (Nothing to do with current politics). We ended up bagging the idea but the name stuck. The magazine has shifted to it's current focus on old school gaming and pulp literature which seems to fit better
