I scored a copy of The Traveller Book off Amazon a couple of days ago and discovered a couple of artifacts on it that made me wonder who the original owner of the book was. Maybe you guys can help me out.
On the back cover at the bottom is a sticker that reads in part "PRENTICE-HALL, Inc." and below that "$15.95 [logo] A SPECTER BOOK," followed by the ISBN number.
On the top of the book, stamped onto the pages, it reads "NOT FOR RESALE."
The answer may be obvious to some of you. I was thinking it might have been a preview copy to secure a distribution deal? The odd thing is, Prentice-Hall is a publisher of textbooks, so I don't know what they'd want with a book like this. I have yet to find out what Specter Books is; I'm still looking.
Any ideas?

I had a friend who worked for Prentice-Hall back in the 80's. I remember her bringing over a role-playing book once that they had published. It was something I never saw again.
