I finally got around to reading this interview. Not much there, but kind of interesting. (1) It's neat that he commented on the amount of playtesting the SW RPG went through. I get the feeling that many RPGs don't get much actual play before publication nowadays. (2) I had forgotten that he was the CREATURE THAT ATE SHEBOYGAN guy. That's an awesome boardgame!

I have a feeling OD&D did not get a lot of blind playtesting before its release, or at else that the feedback was not well incorporated into the game. Costikyan designed some great stuff at SPI, including one of - not exactly a favorite, but something I remember fondly and still have: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2464/swords-sorcery I also have his Pax Britannica game (by Victory Games, which is the company the designers from SPI fled to after the takeover by TSR) which he mentions in the interview although I have not played it yet (I got it in an Ebay auction for a batch of games including another game I wanted).
