[ooc: checking through the character sheets it look like we have a total of 3 flasks. Mot has 2 of them.] Tirandir would shrug at Mot's suggestion, point again at the lizardmen and drag his finger across his throat. Then take a position, with his bow ready, to allows easy firing into the room. -Mike

At the words "death trap" Ædelwynn suddenly finds himself increasingly occupied with the very important task of keeping a close watch on the party's rear. Naturally the rearmost rank would be the best place to undertake this most necessary service.
No, no; no need to thank him.
He does, however, have a flask of oil he is prepared to offer up to the cause, passing it forward if required from a (very safe) distance...

OOC: lets push this forward... First we need to deal with the lizardmen, Mot needs to remove the kobold from direct sight or else there will be trouble. Then we can array ourselves for ambush and someone, IE not the guys holding the bows, can toss the oil in if that is what you all want to do.....

With a very short prayer for their souls to the Lords of Law, Dram dispatches the lizardman guards if doing so will not attract the attention of their kobold ally. He will then, as previously, detailed, take up his position for the ambush and ready his throwing knives, one in each hand.

Mot retrieves a flask of oil from his pack, and take a torch from one of the party members. He will follow the kobold through the arch and motion the archers (Tirandir, Jaras) to come with him, one at each side. If we are charged once we are inside, his plan is to light the oil and throw in front of us while the archers then fire arrows over the oil. We can fall back if outnumbered. The remainder of the party can follow immediately or take care of the lizardmen as they wish (Mot, being Lawful and educated, does not generally approve of killing unarmed foes but recognizes the terrible danger of these reptilian foes).

Tirandir would look at Mot like he was clearly mad... Then giggle a little, shake his head and follow him into the room. He tries to move as quietly as possible but his Bow held in such a way as to make it clear something is going to get shot.

Mot fishes an oil flask out of his pack, and so Aedelwynn is left offering his own flask about with no takers. Mot then breaks the wax seal of the flask to unstop it and ignites the oil therein from the torch he takes from Jaras. The halfling then sets an arrow upon his bow string.
This done, Mot hurries the enchanted kobold ahead of him; the little creature is impatient to return to the safety of the lair in any case, and wastes no time skipping ahead. Mot follows, flanked by Jaras and Tirandir who both have deadly missiles ready upon their bows...
The remainder of the company wait by the guard post, preparing to ambush whatever might come forth from yonder chamber, while Dram thrusts his dagger hard into the scaly throats of the bestial lizardmen, one by one. Even slumbering, their necks are hard and scaly, and it is well that Dram has a hard heart and a strong arm. With a coarse gurgle and a brief struggle, the deed is done.

Inside, there is a thick, reptilian odour in the darkness.
The company dimly spy a rude encampment some score of yards across a broad plaza of broken and uneven flagstones. Beyond the camp are another series of dark archway, just barely discernible at this distance.
A guttering cook fire beneath a huge cauldron provides a modicum of illumination -- just barely enough for Mot and company to fathom the location of the camp in the darkness, and that there are at least half a dozen shadowy figures are hunched variously about the fire.
The enchanted kobold capers toward the camp site happily, urging Mot to follow...
[The referee will assume that Mot, Tirandir and Jaras have a surprise round, seeing that the camp is preoccupied and their guards gave no prior warning.
What to do?]

After dealing with the lizard guards, Dramorian (fighter) will grab one of their spears and stealthily move to where his cohorts are being led by the kobold.
He will attempt to find a spot where he can strike from cover, first with the spear and followed by his throwing daggers. He will not endanger his friends in any way.

Tirandir slowly asses the situation trying to select his first target with some care, while waiting for Mot to act. If he happens to catch Jaras' eye while they approach he would hold up 1 finger and then jerk his thumb back towards the archway.
As soon as either Mot throws his oil or the kobold's look up Tirandir would fire into the camp trying to take out the the nearest kobold. He would then move back to the lower archway as quick as possible as turn and fire again at what he assumes will be a rushing mass.
OOC: Figuring the first shot is the surprise round, then the second shot would be 1st round, hopefully I'll get initiative. I might be trying to abuse the Elven move and shoot rules so handle as you will but I'm hoping to get a second shot off before having to deal with hand-to-hand.

Ædelwynn returns his oil flask to his pack, a vaguely-offended look on his face, and returns to his watch of the rear, calling the rudiments of his magic to his mind once more, should they prove needful...

Then strike the word kobold and use "figure" . I also have no need to "back-peddle", I would just turn and run back to the archway and then setup for my last shot. [From my Chaotic point of view, Jaras was warned and Mot is clearly crazy ] [Yikes ok this might get bloody] -Mike

Mot will attempt to hurl his flaming oil directly into the campfire. He will then duck and scamper back towards the arches.

Mot's enchanted kobold enthusiastically signals their arrival at the camp, but as the reptile-folk seated about the cauldron begin to turn and rise Mot is already launching his fiery flask, and Jaras and Tirandir their missiles.
The distance to the camp is too far for Mot's arm, but is oil flask bursts into a fiery conflagration that illuminates the chamber brightly for a moment, and causes the reptiles to jump back and squeal in alarm. At a moment's count there are nine of them -- but before they've even on their feet Jaras and Tirandir's missiles are flying into the camp! Jaras has a deadly aim, and he immediately drops one of the smaller reptiles, while Tirandir's missile drives into the hard-scaled chest of one of the larger lizards.
Mot's enchanted kobold squeals furiously at this sabotage, and turns about, skidding and snarling "Traitor!" at the magician.
But the trio are already scampering away!
There is no need to check for surprise, as the players already have the advantage.
Mot creates a streak of burning oil between the himself and the camp, which any pursuit will have to move around. Jaras and Tirandir make attack rolls 2d20=20,9, and both hit for 1d6=2 and 1d6=2 points.
Referee determines randomly whether lizardmen or kobolds are hit in the semi-dark [1-4=lizardmen, 5-6=kobolds 2d6=5, 1] and it is one of each. Kobold's hit points are rolled [1d6=1] 1 hit point, so it is slain. Lizardman's hit points are rolled [2d6+1=2,3] 6 hit points, so it is only injured.
With these hostilities, there is no need to roll for a reaction from the camp. Additionally, the enchanted kobold immediately makes an additional saving throw [1d20=20!] and it snaps free of the enchantment!
The surprise attack goes unanswered this round.
What next?

[ooc] Assuming melee hasn't quite begun yet [/ooc]
Jaras, the stout hobbit, quickly notches another arrow and attempts to fall another before his friends' melee charge obscures his shot.
After taking his shot, assuming melee will ensue, he will put away his bow, unsheath his dagger and move as quietly and steathfully towards the fray as possible. Awaiting the opportunity.

Tirandir sticks to his plan of retreating to the (left, lower, south, unguarded, whatever) archway, then taking another shot from there. Once hand to hand starts he intends to retreat into the corridor slowly hoping to expose any combatants to being attacked from behind from the hidden party members.... Malaveque hangs back in the shadows with his scroll of charm person and dagger ready. If a fighter gets double-teamed by lizardmen, Malaveque will try to charm one on the following round. Otherwise, he will only use the dagger if he needs to defend himself and try to avoid combat.

If he has the range and the line of sight to do so, Ædelwynn will unleash his Sleep spell at the enemy, focussing it on the lizard men if possible.
If not, he maintains his watch on the rear and concentrates on keeping out of the way...

The crowd of reptilian brutes give a scathing hiss as they spring up to rush at the offending company, skirting the smear of burning oil. Several smaller figures (kobolds) are scattered by their larger kin, and take cover behind rocks and the great cauldron. The kobold formerly enchanted by Mot gives a piercing squeal as it leaps after and attempts to throttle the retreating magician.
The company looses a volley of missiles in the last moments remaining them as Mot slips defensively between the fighters -- pursued by a raging kobold. Jaras stands and fires, Tirandir dashes away before turning to fire, while Gaspard and Dram enter the chamber through either door arch to fling stone and dagger. Jaras hits the injured lizard, but doesn't stop it, while Tirandir and Darm each hit half-starved specimens, and these go down and are tramped under the charging press. Gaspard's sling stone pocks off a lizardman's skull without hurting it.
Just as the kobold and the marauding wall of lizardmen are about to crash into the precarious looking line of adventurers, Aedelwynn appears in the arch behind Dram and completes his sorcerous utterance causing four of the lizardmen and the kobold previous charmed by Mot to drop into a slumber mid stride!
Only two of the largest brutes win through to smash into Jaras and Dram (Tirandir is nowhere to be seen by now, and Vangelis and Malaveque are behind the arch ways), but their attacks are fierce; Jaras is smashed near off his feet by a brutal mace blow, and brave Dram is eviscerated by powerful crocodile jaws before dropping dead.
Jaras, Tirandir, Gaspard and Dram's missile attacks are rolled first, [1d20=13,13,4,15] and result in three hits! [3d6=3,5,4] Jaras hits the injured lizard. Tirandir and Dram hit new targets. Ref rolls hit points [2d6+1 yields only 3 and 4 -- scrawny specimens, the pair] Both are slain.
Aedelwynn completes his spell and affects [3d6=13] 13 HD. Lizardmen are 2+1 HD, so soak 3 HD each, thus four lizardmen are affected. Mot's ex-charmed kobold soaks the remaining HD.
Only two of the eight lizardmen complete the charge and attack [random targets, 1=jaras, 2=dram, 3=gaspard, 2d3=2,1] Dram and Jaras. [1d20=14,19]. Both our heroes are hit for [1d6=6,3] 6 and 3 damage respectively. Dram is slain, and Jaras is reduced to but 1 hp.
A brutal round of combat indeed...
What next gentlemen?

OOC: Oh bugger....
Tirandir would draw his shortsword, quickly peer out from the archway and see Dram go down. Seeing that the combat hangs in the balance he would throw discretion to the wind (go 7 wisdom) and charge the Lizardman who wounded Jaras hoping to prevent yet another death.......

The smirk of triumph on Ædelwynn's features dissipates rapidly as he sees Dram bite the dust. He decides the most prudent thing to do in the circumstances is to duck back out of sight and endeavour to remain there.
"Done my bit," he mutters to no-one in particular as he plucks a nasty-looking misericorde from the sheath at his belt; "Over to you chaps..."
