Since we don't have a specific place for KS other than in the S&W forum, I'm posting this in general. Feel free to move it if necessary. This is from Jeff Preston, Art Director for KS#2 (it contains his email contact info):
I'll put this at the top so there is no confusion:
*This is an unpaid gig!*
Greetings Artists!
The time has come to solicit art for the upcoming issue of Knockspell Magazine. I have a list of articles in hand and am generating art spec today and I need a bullpen of Artists for assignments.
Even if you have worked for or volunteered before, I would like to be certain before sending out assignments, so I am asking for everyone who is interested and willing to commit to doing 1-5 illustrations for this magazine to please email me at jeff at team-preston dot com, with [KS2] in the subject line followed by your name. From this I will build my roster and start dishing out art spec/ assignments.
TERMS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Copyright:
All artwork submitted to Mythmere Games for Knockspell Magazine Issue 2 will remain owned by the contributor/ artist. Mythmere Games is granted unlimited license for reuse in Mythmere Games products.
Compensation:
The Contributor/ Artist will receive 1x copy of the publication in electronic format upon publication. All contributed art will be credited appropriately.
The Process:
By applying for the Open Call, you are by-definition agreeing to the above terms.
Once I have a list of artists, I will start making offers/ assignments.
The offer will be comprised of descriptions, # of pieces requested, deadline, etc.
By accepting the offer you are agreeing to do the work as requested, by the due date.
Once the assignments are out, the artists are to submit at least one thumbnail sketch per illustration for approval.
We (myself as Art Director and you as Artist) will work out any tweaks and once we have an approved thumbnail sketch the Artist will move forward to a fully pencilled version of the image.
Again we will work out any tweaks/ adjustments/ revisions and once we have an approved pencilled version, the artist will move forward with Inks.
All finalized art must be 300 DPI, Greyscale, PSD or TIF file format. (please don't merge or flatten if possible)
In approximate inches: Full Page= 8.5x11, Half Page= 4.5 x 7, Quarter Page= 3 x 4
Please try and keep the image submitted in the ballpark of the requested size.
Thumbnail sketches, Pencils and work to be approved can be 100 DPI JPGs or whatever is convenient.
Revisions suck. I know it. I deal with them all the time. I'll try and keep them to an absolute minimum.
I will be available at pretty much any time for approvals, so fast turn-arounds are the plan. I don't want to waste your time as Artist.
My expectations:
Artists must try and do their best work.
Artists must try and remain flexible.
Artists must be punctual.
Artists must be communicative.
You can expect the same from me as AD.
I'm looking forward to working with you on this. I want to make this issue of Knockspell as visually stunning if not better than the previous issue and other Mythmere Games products.
Please feel free to cross-post this Open Call wherever artists may be found.
Good Luck guys!
JP
