I'm GMing a mini-campaign for two 6th graders I work with. They get to play for 30 minutes every week if their teacher tells me they've completed all their work. I'm as bummed as they are when we can't play!
I explained the rules and options and they chose to play squirrels--a Friar/Warrior named Mr. Cheeks and a Wizard/Warrior named Frodo. They've stalked a band of weasel bandits who were set up in the woods outside the Abbey, and now are investigating the cave hideout.
Much fun!

The names need a bit of work...

Those Splintered Light minis are crazy-perfect, too. You should see if you can work up a partnership... I'm not saying anything yet, but there may be news on that...

I'm sort of ashamed to say that I've known about this game since it came out, but somehow missed buying it until this week. In my (never-ending) quest to find an RPG that my 8 year old daughter would play, I've been through a few systems - but this one intrigued her...
Truth be told, it also managed to capture my absolute attention as well.
As I mentioned elsewhere on the board, I'm trying to work up a Ravenloft meets OD&D campaign setting. I've been reading voraciously trying to tie influences together, which has resulted in my studying not only the Domains of Dread but Greyhawk. Slowly the two started to merge into a very bleak vision of post-High Magic Oerth... Whereas I tend to revel in the shadows, I've swam a little too far out in my love of LotFP's grim realism. I think I scared my last group away from the table with the whole 'even the good guys are bad' motif... and that was only 'No Dignity in Death'/'People of Pembrooktonshire' not 'Death Frost Doom' level. I find myself dwelling on things like implied social contracts and the free agency of players.
So, in a moment of dementia, while reading Woodland Warriors, I thought what if I kept all that... and added this? Rodenkainen the Archmage, Gnawd the Honey Badger Vampire, Pigsby... Rhennee/Vistani Otters... St. Cuthbark the Golden Retriever (the names would probably not carry over, but they make me smile, as I'm sort of 'rewriting' it all to be a dovetailed new setting heavily inspired by the sources)
It may have been my years with Hackmaster, but I'm thoroughly inspired by the idea of spoofing myself and the 'grim-dark'... I tend to get a little 'serious' in my campaign design, and in doing that with talking animals, I feel I might limit my doom and gloom. Not that I intend to make it any less that way, Watership Down meets Army of Darkness...
I want so much to see more stuff for this wonderful game, that I'm pretty sure I'll end up writing it - even if it never leaves my table.
Simon, you have done more to really inspire me than I would have expected. And I suspect my next group of players, and my daughter (who I can tone it down for), will thank you!
In short, you rock.
