Just ordered, looking forward to seeing it. I'm a big fan of the no-art approach.

I think I see the advantage in a slim published volume of not mentioning the classic monsters (as opposed to one's own campaign) I also like the format and think it is perfectly sensible to do without art but the price is surprisingly high for essentially 8 A4 pages plus map. G1 was eight pages and cost $4.50 in 1978, which is around $15 now. Despite a lack of art, it's actually a bargain, relatively speaking. $5.00 is pretty d**n cheap. What price do you think is fair here? That's like a Mocha Frapachino at Star Bucks. I suppose it is cheap since it includes postage. I was thinking in terms of the pagecount compared to a supplement of 64 pages. Eight of these things would cost $40 which is high, though, maybe others in the series will have more pages.

Each module in the Psychedelic Fantasies line will be 16 pages long, with 9-point Times New Roman font (which comes to about 9,000 words). After subtracting the cost of the materials and the cost of postage, Alex and I (who are sharing the profits 50-50) will probably make enough money to take our wives to dinner and a movie. In other words, the price is the minimum I could charge and still justify all the tedious and time-consuming work. As I've said before, creating for D&D is fun. Formating, editing, buying the proper materials, printing the books, assembling the books, filling orders, going to the post office, etc. is not fun.

A browse of old school modules on RPGNow or similar sites and it's quickly obvious that this is pretty standard pricing for a pdf adventure. That I can get a physical copy sent to me on the other side of the world for $7, which includes postage, is fantastic value. That's less than most US places charge for just the postage alone. I woke up to find the pdf in my inbox this morning. I haven' had time to read it but after a quick glance through I can testify that it's jam-packed full of text. On word count alone it looks like value for money to me.

Living on a right budget, I'm very glad for this new, no-art approach.

Two observations:
Creatures do not have a move rate listed -- is it intended that the AC be used to generate the move rate? If so, this is problematic for some of the creatures (Pholcidae should be faster, Yeast Zombies should be slower, Cursed Corpses probably slower?)... not much of an inconvenience, but adding move rates only adds 4-5 characters per creature entry.
Creatures in the adventure text have a save stat listed, wandering monsters in the back do not -- could we get a save stat included for all creatures in future?

For movement rates, I'd go with your gut instincts. Both of your suggestions are good ideas, and I'll implement them in the future.

Geoffrey: can we expect new adventures in this series? Yes. There is a guy who has a completed manuscript. He and his group are doing further playtests of it. I expect him to submit it to me shortly. Perhaps we could have a second release around Halloween.

Did I tell you about the time some bikini babes holding six-packs showed-up while we were playing Dungeons & Dragons? We curtly waved them away because we were having too good a time exploring the dungeons Within the Radiant Dome. Haha, awesome! I'll be ordering this come Friday!

All six Psychedelic Fantasies modules are available only in PDF and only from rpgnow.com. Now a SIXTH one is available: Streams of the Lucid Crack by Paul Keigh Each stand-alone adventure module in the Psychedelic Fantasies line revels in unconstrained imagination. Every monster, every magic power, and every magic spell is a unique and never-before-seen creation of the author. No orcs, fireballs, or +1 swords will be found within. Leave the familiar behind to explore hitherto undreamed of wonders… Compatible with every old school version of the original fantasy role-playing game. Paul Keigh (author of the 4th Psychedelic Fantasies module, Dreams of the Lurid Sac) is back at it with Streams of the Lucid Crack. As you can tell from the similarities of the titles, these two modules work well together, but each is a stand-alone adventure. If you like the weird, the alien, and the strange, presented with clarity and rigorous logic, then Streams of the Lucid Crack is for you. The players in your campaign have never encountered anything like this. Even for a Psychedelic Fantasies module, this one is off the beaten path.
