So I ran a LL tabletop game this past wknd set in Middle Earth as I have been wanting to try for some time now. It went well.
I included some Uruk Hai in it. I statted them as: 2 hit die AC 4 (black Chain armour + shield) carrying serrated looking long swords (dmg d8+1 w/ STR bonus)
How would you have statted these creatures? - Best wishes, Scaly

Was this in your Shire setting? If so, how did that go?

Was this in your Shire setting? If so, how did that go? Hi yes, I used the map that can be seen in that thread (drawn by Christopher Tolkien by the way), and used the Labyrinth Lord ruleset (without AEC). Adventuring in Middle Earth was very fun, as most of the players could visualize and were familiar with the specific area (and some of the NPCs encountered such as Farmer Maggot and his dogs). I also used the general campaign premise as described in that thread. The party was a mixed adventuring party though (not all Hobbits). The only negative to using Middle Earth as a setting to me was the lack of available 'monsters' to pull from - so I ended up adding some Nehwon Ghouls (from Deities & Demigods - Leiber) Here is a copy/paste of the session recap from the game: Present in the party were 5 PCs, fighter, elf, dwarf, cleric, magic user, and also an NPC Hobbit named Nolan Bracegirdle
You met Auron the Grey at the Green Dragon Inn. He, as represntative of the Council of Races was concerned over the Orc and Uruk Hai presence and activity in the area and wants to find out what they are doing here in the normally quiet and remote Shire area. Raids, killings and abductions have taken place and the Orcs and especially Uruk Hai normally would not bother in such a remote area so far from Mordor.
You interviewed Farmer Maggot and heading into the Old Forest following up on runmours of a centuries old Castle which may exist in the Withywindle valley.
The party headed out through a gap in the hedgerow and following near the sprawling banks of the Withywindle river as a guide. The river was quite swollen and had overrun it's banks in spots with the recent springtime rains. After a night encamped in the damp gloomy forest, and scaring off some 'flying' black squirrel type creatures armed with diminutive daggers in the night you marched on and eventually found the castle. The Castle itself was in complete ruins. Only one tower stood mostly intact, but the sprawling, diverted banks of the Withywindle river flooded the lower levels. You explored up into it and killed some large spiders and looted a crebain nest. You also killed 6 Orc archers and 14 crebain in a battle outside the ruins.
You found a set of trap doors amidst the cluttered ruins of the old keep area which led down below the earth. You explored some there killing 2 Uruk Hai and an Orc Shaman, and also 6 Nehwonian Ghouls who stood as guards outside verdigris covered bronze doors in the vestibule/entrance area 30' below the earth.

Sounds like a great game! Thanks for posting the recap.

Sounds great!
I'd only add a movment rate of 12", even with all the armor and, if you wanna be mean, give them one last attack after they've technically been killed...

Y'know the problem I have with orcs and Uruk-hai? They are too wimpy in OD&D.
Orcs are 1 HD wimps. I always assumed that Hobgoblins = Uruk-hai, which puts them at 1+1 HD. Seems like it's just too easy for heroic types to totally wade through mountains of 'em and hardly break a sweat. (Okay, so the 1+1 HD messes with characters a lot, but the total hit points aren't that big.)
I wish I had a good solution to that one.

I've always like my Orcs to be a bit tougher too. I'm inclined to give 'em 1+4 HD, and also give them the benefit of "Dwarf" saving throws (e.g., save as a 5th level fighter). That seems to do the trick
