Awaking early the next morning as the teaming mass of humanity around you start at stir. You have an early visitor who enters your area with the minimum of formalities.
Imalcho
"I have some bad news and some good news. The Raised Anchor clans and its allies have decided that the Red Dome is a pile of money just waiting to be clutched. They have the place surrounded and are grabbing anyone who steps outside." "While the authorities will not allow this to continue, buy the time they take action we will have missed our appointment."
"Now the good news. I know another way out of the building, a more private way. Below the city there are is a sewer network and the Red Dome has an exit into it. I happen to learn of it during my game and can lead everyone to it, for only a small gift to the Basement Supervisor. A gold each should be enough to show our appreciation of his assistance."
"The sewers are not the safest place to wander around but it is not as dangerous as the Underworld itself. I hear there are many who use it to avoid public scrutiny." =

Hrunal looks sceptically at Imalcho, and reflects briefly on how loose our tie is to this person. Nonetheless, he shoulders his backpack. "We should go then. I hope the tide is not in."

Imalcho led everyone to Tajqol, the supervisor of the Chamber of Restful Slumber. From Tajqol, after a suitable "gift" of a handful of silver, Imalcho got a token to allow access to the private clan quarters. He quickly lead them along several halls and down a couple flights of stairs.
Checking the hanging plaque outside of a door at the bottom of the last stairs they determined that Qolyemu, supervisor of the Accumulation of Essential Replenishment was expecting company. A quick rattle of the hanging knocker and the door was opened by a slave servant.
Imalcho introduced everyone and offered the remaining silver he had collected from the Silver Shell clan to Qolyemu. With a nod, Qolyemu directed the servant to move the barrels off of the trapdoor in the floor of the room.
"Here is a torch to light your way," he said as he had the servant light a new torch from a nearby candelabrum. The opened trap door revealed a set of stairs that led down into the darkness, an unpleasant odor drifted up from them. =

Imalcho
After a slight hesitation he declairs, "Yes, I will guide us through the maze of sewer tunnels." The pride of having been granted leadership of the party overcame his initial impulse of admitting he had not travelled the sewers before.
Turning to Qolyemu he asked, "Which direction do you suggest that we go?"

Qolyemu
"Turning left will take you towards the bay and an exit. Turning right will take you further into the city and into areas controlled by the Grey Gem clan."
"If it was me, I would turn left and get out of the sewers as soon as possible."

Wrinkling his nose at the stench Gereshma readies his weapons.
'Any volunteers to take the lead from among our heroic warriors?', he asks. 'Fear not, I shall be right behind you ready to ward off anything supernatural, not that us Silver Shells are afraid of anything,' he says quickly to Imalcho.
He peers curiously down into the noisome hole. So this was what the clever city folk did with their doings was it? Chucking it straight in the sea certainly seemed a more sensible option.

Hrunal notes Imalcho's unexpected air of authority, and reflects that Jakallans must not employ guides often, or he would not be so pleased with himself for having claimed the lowly place of mere guide.
"Left sounds good to me."

Zharkan steps towards the front, and looks to Sanjesh. "I will assist. My spear has some reach in case we run into any trouble." He smiles, his twisted face a gruesome, feral snarl all most. "Besides, I might scare something away!" Muttering a quick prayer to Chegarra, Zharkan slides his spear out to cover his clansman's side.

Kevuk nods assent to the leftward bearing and smiles with satisfaction at his clan-brothers.
"With you two doughty chlen in front, I'd just make a crowd," he says, bantering lightly. "I suppose the rear guard slot falls to me, sweeping up your dung, eh?" And keeping an eye on these two robed ones, he thinks silently to himself, slipping to the back of the party.

'Well lead on then, Zharkhan,' says Gereshma testily. 'Imalcho keep next to me and give directions. I'll heal you if any of the turds down there turn out to have teeth.'

The Silver Shell clansmen having arranged themselves, they moved cautiously down the stairs. At the bottom, Sanjesh and Zarkhan worked together, one opening the door while the other was ready with a weapon...

The door into the sewer tunnel opens quietly and the stench buffets the party. The light from Hrunal's torch throws dancing shadows ahead of them, revealing the slime incrusted tunnel to be ten feet wide with a rivulet of sewage flowing sluggishly down its middle. Stepping into the tunnel, Sanjesh and Zarkhan can see that it is dimly lit by pale beams of sunlight through widely separated drain holes near its ceiling. The tunnel curves a little in both directions so visibility is limited even with what lighting there is. There is no noticeable noise above the drip and gurgle of liquids best left unidentified. To the left the amount of lighting is varying in a random pattern. To the right the light is steady but there an unending stream of liquid dribbling down the wall, on the door side, adding to the stream flowing past. = Map: home.earthlink.net/~djackson24/EPT02.JPG

Kevuk looks down the leftward path. How wide is it? Single file, or can we still go double?

OOC:The light is varying how - torchlight flickering, lamps swinging, shadows of things approaching? Uses Intelligence (%roll?) to work out the risk.
'Beware,' says Gereshma, 'Zharkhan, Sanjesh, take this slowly and surely...'

Kevuk looks down the leftward path. How wide is it? Single file, or can we still go double? It is ten feet wide so easily allows two people side by side. Especially if they don't mind one foot in the raw sewage flowing down the middle. OOC:The light is varying how - torchlight flickering, lamps swinging, shadows of things approaching? Uses Intelligence (%roll?) to work out the risk. You cannot be certain of the source from this far away but the light is brighter than that filtering in from the drains. You would guess from what you can tell, now that you have examined it, that it is torchlight. Are you whispering or speaking in normal voices?=

Zharkhan uses his spear as a probe in front of him to see if he can trip any traps, or anything else that might be lurking in the sewer. "Those bastards of Chiteng are going to get theirs for this...." he murmurs under his breath.

Zharkhan "fished" while everyone else moved along the edge of the sewage stream in both directions so that all could enter the tunnel. He was glad that he wasn't touching what he found with his hands. By using his spear as a pole he was easily able to cross the small rivlet to the other side. It was much quieter doing that than even the hop needed by anyone wanting to join him. Looking down the sewer tunnel as far as can be seen in both directions, revealed nothing of interest.
What sounded like a cough echoed down the tunnel from the direction of the varing light source. =

Kevuk motions everyone back into the entryway tunnel. When one or two (or more) are next to him he whispers quietly:
"Ho, cousins. If those fellows are coming this way, we've some throats to slit. If not, then we'll slip off the other way, to the left. Let's hide out and set an ambush before they get here..."
Kevuk's plan, if people want to go along with it, is to wait for these guys and then assault them, or, if they're going the other way, to slip off to the left and ignore them.

Hrunal is obviously not keen on a fight in the sewer before we even get to our appointment. He'll back into the entryway tunnel, and draw a dagger (with the torch in his off-hand).

Imalcho
"I expect that I am not the only one to know about a back exit. The gang may be waiting for anyone that tries to escape this way."
After a moments thought he added, "We are lucky that they don't like the smell any more than we do and are waiting near an exit instead here at the door."

Kevuk continues whispering.
"If they don't come for us, we should just slip left along the wall, single file, going slow and quiet so they don't see us."
Then the warrior listens as well as he can to hear if the men with torches seem to be standing still or coming closer.

Whoever is waiting to the LEFT with the torch(s) is not approaching. " Fah, they wait for us" whispers Hrunal. He looks at the heavily-armored warriors, and at reedy Sanjesh with his valuable healing skills, and adds " Imalcho, since you are our guide, please sneak up and see what sort are lurking out there. If you stay down and close to the inside of the curve, they will certainly not notice you."
