Supervisor Whitman falls silent for a moment as he begins the grim task of sweeping toad gore from the lift-platform.
Shadow and the b'yakhee, both badly wounded, are in cryo-sleep on board the Roverzoid.
Fated and Minion are both wounded; only Breath made it through the battle unscathed. Whitman is quite beat up as well, but soldiers on heroically. (Alas poor Pack Slave.)
This is your second night without adequate sleep, and it's starting to take its toll. The nightmare in the tunnel, your exploration of Aylesbury, the disaster with the Pastor, night flight to the mysterious mountaintop base, the toad attack... You're exhausted!

Minion makes a good show of trying to help Whitman clean up, but mostly conveys his difficulty in staying awake. He groans with the pain of his debilitating wounds.

Breath of New Moon also helps with the cleaning up. The fact that she made it through the battle unscathed is not surprising to her, she knows her blood is charmed.
"I, as well, will accept your offer," she says to Whitman. "It has been a busy day."

The Party awakens the next morning feeling refreshed. Strangely, none of you remember going to bed last night. You recall riding the lift platform down into the mountain, then taking a cold shower and changing into clean Green Man work jumpsuits. Then you joined Supervisor Whitman for a prepackaged (but very much appreciated) meal and a bottle of Bucket's Mushroom Wine. After that, things get a little fuzzy. Minion vaguely recollects a strange dream about a purple man fighting a jale-colored blob in a jungle. Weird!
What you do know is that you're waking up in cots in some sort of underground dormitory. Your gear has been hosed down of gore and is hung on pegs to dry. Everybody is well-fed and rested. Fated has been restored to 1 hit point.
There is a knock on the door and Whitman pokes his head inside. "Five minutes to wash up, then meet me at the lift. We have an appearance before the Mountain God to plead for Shadow's life!" He shuts the door and his footsteps recede down the hall.

Breath of New Moon shrugs after Whitman leaves. "We had best hope the God cannot read minds," she whispers, barely audible.

Fated: "Look alive! Today we make demands of a god!" He starts rifling through the room, looking for anything of interest.

With the new day, the underground complex is bustling with Green workers. They look at you funny but do not interfere. Whitman is waiting and escorts you to the lift, walking with authority among his people. "The Mountain God is strongest when the winter winds blow. In the coldest months, he is ever present in the ice that blocks the mountain passes and the winds that lash at our homes. This time of year he returns to his cave and turns his power inward. He does not speak except very quietly to those that serve him."

Fated makes a show of coping with his wounds.
"This is an honor, I hope our meager actions on his servants' behalf will find favor in his eyes."

Minion puts his equipment on over his jumpsuit. He uses the transparency of his tissues to stare at the activities of the green men, hoping to divine some of their purpose.
Following Whitman, he says "I shall listen very closely."

Breath of New Moon: "Indeed, it will be an honour."
However, she's now thinking that the so-called 'God' may simply be smoke-and-mirrors after all.

The lift descends deep, deep into the bowels of Trapezoid Mountain. Finally it reaches a stop on the lowest level.
You enter a cold, dimly-lit natural cavern. The first thing you notice is the Roverzoid module (presumably with Shadow and the B'yakhee still inside) is parked in an alcove with all kinds of wires and tubes attached to its various orifices.
The second thing you notice is an intensely beautiful rocky alcove, about 6 feet wide. It is the brightest part of the cave, illuminated by a diffuse natural sunlight filtering down from high above. This alcove is dominated by an immense icicle slowly meting and dripping into a pool below.
"The Mountain God," whispers Whitman reverently. He kneels down before the pool and listens intently to the drip, drip of melting ice.

Supervisor Whitman meditates for several minutes.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
"The Mountain God has spoken: If Shadow survives, then he will be Chosen to assist with our great and noble Project.
"But if Shadow dies, then all of you will be banished from Trapezoid Mountain and the town of Aylesbury forevermore."
He bows down before the giant icicle, then walks over to the Roverzoid and begins to detach the many cables and hoses from the suspended-animation chamber.
A final Survive Adversity check will determine Shadow's fate...

The stillness of the Mountain God's Grotto is shattered by a piercing, metallic siren from the Roverzoid. Steam shoots out and the contraption begins shaking and rocking like an unbalanced load of laundry!
Whitman curses most vilely in Green and begins muttering under his breath as he desperately manipulates the dials and levers. "Coolant pressure dropping... vital signs weak... power surge in the control unit..."

Minion whispers to Breath and Fated. "This looks bad. Should we accuse Whitman of killing him, hightail it up the lift while he's distracted, or wait and see what he says?"

Fated: "Ladies & gentlemen, I believe a road trip is in order... how does Arkham sound?
"One of you mugs want that frightful armor? It's not my style, but I wouldn't mind his spear..."

((OOC: I assume we have our weapons & gear with us?))
Breath of New Moon: "Indeed, now is the time to act!" she whispers, her grip tightening on her Glaive as she nods towards Whitman's back. If she gets consent from the others, she will leap to the attack, hopefully gaining surprise.

Will you let Supervisor Whitman Open The Hatch, or interrupt his action?
[yes, you do have all your arms, armor, and equipment]

Whitman pulls the final lever and the hatch opens with a blast of cryogenic fog. He staggers back several steps, a look of pure astonishment on his face!
Shadow is crumpled up in his bloody armor, just as you left him... but the B'yakhee is gone!
Whitman falls to his knees before his Mountain God!

The Shadow of the Evermore slowly sits up, his movements halted and jerky as if he's not used to such a simple action.
He turns his head to Minion, Breath, and Fated in turn, pausing for a brief moment with each one. As he catches your eye, you realize you know he has a new name - The Shade of the Evermore.
He stands up, his presence seeming to fill the inside of the vehicle, and he shifts around in his armour before carefully stepping out of the hatch.
With every action he takes, The Shade of the Evermore's motions seem more fluid and natural, as if he's slowly adjusting to some change. Reaching back inside, he pulls out his obsidian-tipped spear and tosses it to Fated To Die. And you know he wants you to have it.
He takes a deep breath. Or... that's what you think he's doing when you note his dark armour flexing out and settling back down.
*There are no good gods, Minion*

Noticing Supervisor Whitman standing off to the side, The Shade turns to face him.
He stares at him in silence for several seconds before tilting his head down one time very slowly. Then he turns back to the rest of the group and waits...

Breath of New Moon smiles invisibly. It actually worked!... sort of. She watches Shade carefully, unsure if his motives still coincide with her own.

Whitman grovels before his melting ice deity, his lips moving silently as though in conversation with himself. He listens intently to the drip, drip, drip of water into the pool below, as though searching for an answer.
After a few minutes, the Green Hero stands, looking pale and confused. "The Mountain God says you must reach Arkham safely. I am to escort you to Aylesbury Station."
