Thought I'd drop in and let you know the LotFP edition of Carcosa went to the printer today.
I expect it to arrive here and go on sale the first week of December.

The fanfare on your blog, Jim4, would have us believe that publishing Carcosa for the second time is a cause for celebrating something more than Geoffrey's achievement, an achievement that has already been widely acknowledged.
The publications of the osr will remain faintly interesting the day after as the day before the release of this second edition because talent cannot be borrowed or shared and enthusiasm is not a convincing substitute.
So, well done Geoffrey, the second edition may be diminished in power for readers who, familiar with Lovecraft, ca Smith et al., have a deeply imagined personal vision of Carcosa but in compensation readers unfamiliar with those authors can now all see Carcosa in exactly the same way through the eyes of a single artist, just like a comic book I suppose. ;D

I think the single best thing about the re-publication of Carcosa is that, once again, Carcosa will be in print. It's been well over a year since my printer broke, thus putting Carcosa out of print. From that time, I was able to sell only PDFs.
But in a very short time, people will be able to buy a Carcosa book again. Keep in mind that I sold a grand total of 173 print copies of Carcosa (of which 17 were the Expurgated Edition). Some people bought more than one copy. Thus probably only about 150 people ever bought a physical copy of Carcosa. Surely there are more people than that who would like to buy a Carcosa book. Very soon they will be able to do so.

CARCOSA profiteers, please do not spoil Kent's deeply personal visions, for they are personal and deep. He read CA Smith and CARCOSA for the first time each two years ago and, in pondering those works and treading the moist fertile soils within in dream & tormented waking reality for 24 months, he has conceived every compelling vision that might arise from same.
The work here is done, we have but to thank Kent for doing it and hope he deigns to share. Cease all enthusiasm, posthaste.

Feckin' awesome!! I'm very much looking forward to putting this on my Christmas list... which somehow seems inappropriate... EDIT: If we didn't have fanfare, then there would be no point to any of it.

150 or so copies sold means about 20% of the osr population bought one which is pretty good.
Crusssdaddy, that is 150 different visions of Carcosa and there could have been many more with this edition but instead it will top out at 151. I didn't mean to scorn your library of children's illustrated classics. Reading is all good however much of a leg up we need.

Between Carcosa and Isle of the Unknown, I'm just hoping the US Dollar will suddenly rally and gain a few pennies against the Euro, between now and December.

Those are my own illustrations I made in the margins. Oh, its not that bad Kent! Some of us bought the pdf. Im surprised given how much judges guild stuff you've been buying lately that you didn't get a hard copy.

Im surprised given how much judges guild stuff you've been buying lately that you didn't get a hard copy. I was buying and printing quite a lot of PDF's back then. I've since turned a jaundiced eye toward paying for electronic books, which I don't even technically own. Partly, a not entirely artificial "Get off my Lawn," kinda affectation. Mostly it's just not as fun "collecting" pdf's and they don't look decorative on my bookshelf. My 43 year old eyes might have something to do with it as well.

I do want to note that Geoffrey didn't simply hand Carcosa over and hope for the best... he was involved start to finish in the process.
I can't say this pure unadulterated McKinney (because everyone had their input), but the goal was always to present Geoffrey McKinney's Carcosa in its full glory, with all decisions supporting this being Geoffrey McKinney's Carcosa rather than a generic vision of Carcosa.

Good to know that it wasn't my imagination! ;D I do want to note that Geoffrey didn't simply hand Carcosa over and hope for the best... he was involved start to finish in the process. I can't say this pure unadulterated McKinney (because everyone had their input), but the goal was always to present Geoffrey McKinney's Carcosa in its full glory, with all decisions supporting this being Geoffrey McKinney's Carcosa rather than a generic vision of Carcosa. And remember ... Carcosa kind of started right here on these boards. At least, for a long time our forum was the only "official" place to discuss Carcosa, so this place is still kind of the epicenter of the Carcosa explosion!

This is awesome news! IMO, Carcosa and Vornheim are two of the most outside-the-box RPG products produced in connection with this whole Old School Thang, and both are now available, in print, from one quality-driven source. Great work James, and great work, Geoffrey (and Zak S. as an aside...) Have there been any previews of what the rebirthed Carcosa is going to look like? I searched briefly, but couldn't find anything... *EDITED to add: Ah, I just went to the blog instead of the website, and answered my own question...

I hope you will find Isle of the Unknown to be worthy to add to that list. There's nothing in it (whether monster, spell, or magic item) that you've ever seen before.

Geoffrey, I hope you and Raggi have been more restrained with illustration for this 'Isle of the Unknown' release, have you?

Geoffrey, I hope you and Raggi have been more restrained with illustration for this 'Isle of the Unknown' release, have you? Do you like asking questions you already know the answers to? Isle of course features over 120 full color illustrations, including pics of each and every unique monster found on the island.

I'm really looking forward to these.
@jim - Will you be putting them up for pre-order before the holidays? Also, any ball-park guess on shipping cost to the US (Boston-ish) if I ordered both at once?

They should be on sale the day they arrive from the printer... December 1, 2, or 7 if everything goes as planned (3-6 is a long holiday weekend here). Ballpark shipping cost to the US: Carcosa alone, or Carcosa + Isle: 14,50€ 2nd class, 24€ 1st class Isle alone: 5,20€ 2nd class, 9,60€ 1st class

Thanks, Jim!
That's not too too bad... that should be about $95 US for both then (item cost + 2nd class shipping).
Wellp. Looks like that's my entire Christmas list right there. ;D

Carcosa alone, or Carcosa + Isle: 14,50€ 2nd class, 24€ 1st class Could a S&W Tome of Horrors be squeezed into the box for that cost as well?

The Tome can't be "squeezed" anywhere because it's such a massive book. I'd expect 25,60€ 2nd class, 30,05€ 1st class if you're including the Tome in the order, but I can't swear to that until the new books are in my hands and I know how much they weigh.

The Carcosa map is at the top of the photograph, but the Isle of the Unknown map is sitting on top of the Carcosa map. ;D
