Im working on a cavern at the moment in which there are active and inactive fireholes. The idea is that far beneath the earth some trapped being is incarnating splinters of his psyche in surface-seeking rivers of magma and vicariously causing mayhem through these fire ghosts or fire spirits of flame and molten rock. One idea is that if a fire or some magma contains a spirit it does not lose heat or die out. A ghost can be a pale weak flame invisible in daylight but with vicious intent capable of the selective burning of delicate precious objects. There is a small chance that a person burned at the stake could incarnate the flames and the fire then would not die out.
Anyway the point of the post is to hear about your use of or innovation with any of the following that interests you:
What Monsters in OD&D *which are associated with FIRE* have you used, reinterpreted, tweaked or wholly invented?
What Spells in OD&D *which are associated with FIRE* have you used, reinterpreted, tweaked or wholly invented?
How do you handle mechanically burns to flesh in terms of incapacitation and healing if you did decide not to abstract it completely in HPS?
How much damage does a flaming torch do and would a blow from a torch really cause flame damage or would some form of wrestling and sustained contact not be required?
How do you handle damage from flaming pools of oil and molotov cocktails?
In a sweltering environment would you allow player characters to wear armour?
