Soval will put his lantern on the ground and ready his crossbow while he waits for the rest of the crew to finish exploring and move on.

With the additional light, Norin bends down to examine the metal tracks to see if he can determine what their purpose was. In fact, there are two steel tracks set into the ground approximately three feet apart. These run between the two rows of columns in the main hall, and then veer into the passage which the company now stands in, running down the exact center of the passage. It is not entirely clear what the purpose of this work was... perhaps further exploration of Moria will reveal more?

"Master Hobbit!" Eremin calls softly. "Would you be so good as to pass down my hook and rope, while you're up there?" Baraglin frees Eremin's grapple, and the Human (and Hobbit!) pyramid is disassembled. Now that the broad passageway is illuminated for some 60ft around the steadily burning beacon, the company can just see the shadowy bulk of another, similar beacon hanging further down the passage. With luck, these devices aught to continue for the entire length of the passage.

The Elves guard the eastern passage way while all this occurs.
Soval, meanwhile, has readied his crossbow.

Lómëluin glances down at the steel tracks. "For mining carts?" he offers.
Then he turns his attention back to the Eastern passage.
"We have lingered here long enough. Let us move on."
He begins to make his way cautiously down the passage towards the archway on the right.

"Agreed," replies Norin and motions for the lead elves to, well, lead the way.

And lead on they do.
The marching order is thus:

Now Lomeluin goes cautiously ahead to the brink of the orange light cast about by the ancient Dwarf beacon.
The dual steel tracks play on directly down the middle of the passage, as straight as an arrow flies, vanishing off into the gloom ahead.
But much closer at hand, mayhap some 60ft from the first beacon, Lomeluin comes to a great door arch on the right hand side of the passageway where the Troll stench is as thick as falling rain. Upon great, rusted iron hinged the ruins of an utterly broken door hang grimly like a ship wreck upon a rocky shore.
Within is so dark that even Elvish eyes cannot see...

Soval feels his lantern weighs about half full.
Hepti has recently set flame to his third torch.
Burmon's lantern, among other, remains unlit.
What now?

Sili sniffs the foul air with his exceptionally long nose. "Trolls! Let me at them..." he whispers.

Lómëluin holds up his hand for silence and listens carefully for any sound coming from beyond the broken doorway.

"Send in a hobbit to have a look", whispers Legandir in Sindarin, "we are less likely to hit them by accident". He stretches his bowstring to readiness and eyes the darkness warily.

"Draw your bows like this all, and get ready to shoot the foe before they can lay a attack on us", states Éohild showing her fine short bow. "Now bring light into the room beyond the broken door so we may see within".

"My gallant halflings," says Lómëluin with surely not a trace of sarcasm in his voice; "the chance of further glory is at hand. Which one of you will bear a torch yonder that we who have fought and bled for the good of this fellowship may see what we have to face?"

"By Durin's beard," mumbles Norin as he pushes forward, "the shirefolk haven't been gallant for centuries." He hisses, "Someone follow me with a light; I'll lead the bloody way..."
Gripping his war hammer in both hands, he heads for the archway.

It is the Dwarves, Norin and Sili, who finally clamber into the stinking side chamber, teeth gritted and weapons held ready.
Then come the Elves, with arrow feathers drawn back on bow strings so that they tickle their fine features.
And then brave Hepti comes before the remainder of the company with his guttering torch casting its orange light into the place ahead of the the Dwarves.

Despite the wretched stink, there are no Trolls here. Instead, Sili and Norin find a relatively modest chamber that is made to appear all the smaller for the mass of rubble and clutter of bones, helmets, spears and shields in the place.
It must have been here that several Trolls made their homes until recently -- for a large black cauldron sits atop a spent fire in the middle of the room. And to judge by the filth, Orcs were their principle diet.
There is another dark entry directly across the room, maybe 60ft away.
What now?

Legandir motions the dwarfs toward the opening with a thrust of his chin, pointing his bow into the darkness. "Trolls are not renowned for their craftiness in battle - I'll wager that we are alone", he whispers.

Sili moves cautiously toward the opposite entry-way; is it troll-sized or dwarf-sized?
"Hepti, shine your light so the... burglars... among us can check this room for treasure!"

Norin grunts in agreement as he casually moves aside bits of armour and debris with his warhammer, looking for anything that might appear to be of higher quality or value.

Sili moves cautiously toward the opposite entry-way; is it troll-sized or dwarf-sized? The door opposite was hewed from the stone by Dwarf masons. It appears that the iron bound timber door has suffered the same fate as that just passed through; the Trolls must have smashed it in their dim witted attempt to pass through. Most of them would have to hunch low to use the portal, for it is only 6ft high.

Norin grunts in agreement as he casually moves aside bits of armour and debris with his warhammer, looking for anything that might appear to be of higher quality or value. The remains seem to be, in vast part, or Orcish origin. Splintered shields, cracked helms, broken spear shafts, and a great assortment of skulls, rib-cages and arm and leg bones. It would seem these Trolls must have eaten scores of Orcs between them. No loss to Man, Elf or Dwarf, but the goods they carried seem to have been universally crude implements.
