All of those give me the 'yawn' response.
What I want are sequels to The Last Starfighter and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai (Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League!)

Well, I take that back. I would like to see the Alien sequel. That seems interesting enough. I'd really like to see a planet-wide infestation of the creatures, perhaps here on Earth. Or a visit to the Aliens home planet, where we may see where the creatures are on the food chain of their indigenous environment.
What would eat an Alien? Even smaller parasites? Or some terrifying, huge but docile behemouth?

I find the Episode VII one amusing...mostly because of all places, the Sci-Fi Channel (who host scifiwire, iirc) has no right to complain about George Lucas making bad science fiction films.

- Firefly returned to TV would be great. Even better if it ignored the movie and brought back the whole cast unscathed.
- A Battlestar Galactica movie continuing the original, with Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, Terry Carter, Herb Jefferson Jr, and Anne Lockhart... would be amazing.
- The Star Wars live-action TV series actually may be pretty good. If they can capture the look-and-feel of Episode IV, I'll be happy. Episode III showed to some degree that that can be done.
- I like the idea of a Sulu movie!

I've always wanted to see a series of Trek films with Captain John Harriman at the helm of the Enterprise B. There's a lot of missed potential there. I believe so even more after having seen the Internet Star Trek film Of Gods and Men, which sees Alan Ruck reprise the role, alongside Nichelle Nichols as Uhura, Walter Koenig as Chekov, and Tim Russ as Tuvok, amongst others.

A real return of Firefly would be really high on my list.
If the new Star Trek XI movie is good, I'll be hoping for a sequal to that also! :-)
A Battlestar Galactica reuniting the original cast would be neat as well. I understand that Richard Hatch has financed a short film that is shown at SciFi conventions occasionally that fits this concept somewhat, and of course Hatch has been writing BSG novels so there would be ample source material. (I assume you'd have to skip ahead in time to where Apollo is Commander of the Galactica, however, since he's older and Lorne Greane is no longer with us.)
I agree with you on the John Carter of Mars movie, Rabbit, although it's technically not a sequel. Supposedly there is a pixar movie in the works but who knows if it will ever actually be finished.
A Gor movie could be interesting if well done, but otherwise it might just become some cheap porn flick. The Counter-Earth storyline with the Priest-Kings is pretty classic and the later storyline with the Kur is pretty good as well. They would have to just tone down on the whole slavery thing.

Oh! A new Battlestar Galactica would be awesome! Since folks are throwing out things that haven't been done yet... Give me a two and half hour Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser film that had to have 30mins cut from it to scrape by with an "R" rating and I'll sign right the F up. I've 'seen' a trailer for that in my mind a thousand times. With the bombastic, building music akin to the famous piece from Aliens and lots and lots of one second long scene fragments jumping from one to the next (with gritty and gray-colored photography): A shot of the "Twain" crossing swords with some back-alley ruffians, a shot of Ningauble turning toward the camera, Mouser on the edge of Stardock, the tower from Jewels in the Forest slamming downward, more swordplay, a crane shot of Lankhmar, a shot of one of the busy and dirty streets, Sheelba looking downward and raising his cowled head, revealing the blackness inside, the Twain back-to-back with swords raised, the black temple's doors open with a handful of dark figures emerging and when the music is at it's peak, the iron bell sounds loudly. Title. Bell strike. Then a shot of Fafhrd and Mouser with Thieves House in flames behind them. Bell strike. Date of release. Quick and horrible close-up of one of the gods of Lankmar. Black out. Oh! Oh yeah, baby! Sorry.. I got carried away. ;D

Sounds like a cool movie. So when are you gonna direct it? (You've definitely got an eye for the material!)

The very idea of Disney producing a Pixar John Carter of Mars makes me throw up in my mouth a little and want to go on a violent rampage of the Disney studios. I have these hideous visions in my head of John Carter and his cute little Martian sidekick which looks kind of like a green blob with eyes and a mouth and spouts plucky catch-phrases.

Yeah, I've long thought a sequel to the old Battlestar Galactica would be great. Here's what I'd do with the characters:
1. The characters of all those actors who are now dead would themselves be dead. So would the robotic dog.
2. The characters of all those actors who would not agree to do the sequel would be missing in action (which allows for them to return if the actor ever so decided).
3. The characters of all those actors who are actually in the movie would be the same characters, but suitably promoted. Apollo would have his father's old position of authority. His son would now be a warrior. Etc.
To help preserve a feel of continuity, I'd not use CGI.

Yeah! I still haven't seen any CGI that looks as real as the models in the original Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica!

Yes on Firefly! The rest, not so interesting. I like machfront's Fafhyrd/GM trailer, though!

From the writer/director of John Carter (as in Falconer's link):
I'm going to go on record right now and say ANY director who says "I'm going to do what I remember more than what they exactly do in the books," in regards to ANY adaptation should be immediately fired, and never allowed to work again.

. . . putting their own spin on the iconic story. . .
This is the one that gives me the shivers.

I would love to see an interpretation of either Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers, but more true to the originals (as compared to the craptastic late 70's/early 80's offerings).
A remake of Silent Running would be most appropriate nowadays.
And how about Them? Bring back the big bug movies, says I! ;D

I'm not a big sci-fi guy, so I really don't care much about such films. But the ones I would like to see are:
Logan's Run. A lean, mean, hedonistic chase film based on the actual book as opposed to the one that came out in the 70's.
Blade Runner. Not a sequel, but a PREQUEL. Detailing the battles and experiences of Roy Batty as he begins to realize that maybe there is something more for his kind than just being cannon fodder.
A Princess of Mars. I'm really, really praying that this turns out to be a good film.
Strikeforce Moraturi. Based on the old Marvel series, perhaps one of the best sci fi comics ever.
Now as for fantasy films, I'd love to see a Lankhmar movie done right (not too silly, and not too serious). I'm STILL waiting for the much-promised Conan film that has been bandied about for the better part of a decade.
I like the Gor series a lot. It's a shame that a lot of people can't get past the gratuitous bondage and appreciate other aspects of the series. Though those two lame films certainly didn't help matters. A good Gor film might lend the series some credibility.
I would really like to see a film based on Karl Edward Wagner's Kane character, the darkest of dark fantasy heroes.
Finally, little would please me more than a well-done adaptation of Larry Niven's classic book "The Magic Goes Away." I can't tell you how much inspiration I've gotten from all three books in that series.
Okay, that's my two cents worth.

Cast pretty boys with acting capabilities of cardboard would be the first step. And it would be PG-13. And have lots of explosions. I guess it would also have to have an annoying and two-dimensional rock soundtrack as well.
