Its always a little amazing to me when grown men expect a new installment in a kids movie franchise to thrill them as much as it did when they were 10. C'mon gentlemen. On the whole, I think Lucas did pretty well balancing complex plot with comic book entertainment. Except for Return of the Jedi. The killer teddy bears were just too silly even for kids, and the scene at the end where Luke temporarily embraces the dark side and brings balance to the force was poorly directed and not well understood by the audience. That's the only one of he series that's really unwatchable. When I was a child, I was blown away by The Hobbit cartoon. Now I think it's pretty bad. When I was a child, I loved reading 1970s Marvel comic books. Now I find them unreadable. When I was a teenager, I thought David Lindsay's novel, A Voyage to Arcturus, was boring. Now I find it fascinating. Etc. But the original Star Wars trilogy? Loved it then, love it now, even though Return of the Jedi is the weak one. Perhaps I would have liked the prequels when I was a little kid, but I know that I don't like them as an adult. I also loved The Hobbit novel as a child as well as as an adult. In short, there are some things that appeal to all ages, and there are some things that are pretty much just for children. The old Star Wars films are in the former category.

Of the movies I've seen on the list, I found Titanic and Phantom Menace to be the weakest with very few redeeming qualities. They were big deals when they were released, which is why they sold so many tickets. The list simply demonstrates that Hollywood has gotten better at convincing people to go to the movies regardless of the quality of a film, and probably that people are willing to spend more of their incomes on movies. The Phantom Menace is so high because a new Star Wars film was so eagerly anticipated, but people soon realized their mistake: notice that the other two prequels aren't on the list. I'm aware of why Titanic and Phantom Menace sold so many tickets. My point was that the majority of the films on the list actually are both mega-popular and of a high quality. Titanic and Phantom Menace stand out to me as exceptions, as both are rather poorly executed films with few redeemable qualities, IMO.

Am I the only one who actually finds the beginning of Star Wars boring? Not that it keeps it from being a 4 star movie, but usually when rewatching I prefer to start where Obi Wan comes in.

The only Star Wars movies that I find boring are The Phantom Menace (especially the scenes on Tatooine) and Attack of the Clones (especially the scenes with Anakin and Padme together).

I don't expect a "child-like wonder" type of experience, but I don't want to check my watch wondering what time the movie would end. That's exactly what I did when when watching Phantom Menace, when Qui Gon was explaining about the midi-chlorians.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed several parts of the movie, especially the light saber battle, but it dragged in other places.

I still think about the ending fight of Phantom Menace all the time, particularly the part where Qui Gon opts to sit and meditate while separated from the badguy. That's just so courageous, but I see the benefit of gathering onseself before the big effort.
