Hey guys,
Now that the 2nd printing of WB is just about in full swing (Boxed Sets will start shipping very soon, the single volume softcover & hardcover versions of WB will be up on Lulu by Monday and WB will be in games stores in a few months), it is time to start thinking about supporting WB with modules and supplements. Matt's press release (back when he announced that BHP was going to publish WB) stated that BHP would be supporting WB with all kinds of material. That is true, but I do not have some hidden army of WB writers pumping out material behind the scenes for BHP to publish!
There are all kinds of ways that folks can support WB - by sharing their new material in blog post, free pdfs, articles for KS & FO, etc. I think it is just fantastic that so many people are actively involved in participating and supporting our hobby. But some great examples of our community's very best material also needs to be offered along with the WB rules in game stores around the world. Of course, this is exactly what I try to do with BHP and it is the best way that I can support WB.
So I am interested in and actively looking for submissions for WB modules and supplements. And I will be asking for volunteers (that will get free copies of the material they help with) from this community to help proof, tweak and perfect every single WB product we prepare to go into game stores. That way, we should easily be able to send some outstanding material for WB out into the greater gaming world.
Here are a few details to help you understand what kinds of material I am looking for:
-I prefer to see manuscripts or detailed outlines of material that has already been used in a gaming group.
-I am not interested in reading about ideas that have not been developed or gamed with - so many times our good intentions and plans never materialize because of one good reason or another (it happens to me all the time too!).
-At BHP, we work as a team with the author and artists, giving and taking feedback and suggestions all through the perfecting process so that we will all end up being very proud of the final product.
-While not every product submitted will be accepted for publication, every submitted product will receive lots of feedback and suggestions on how it can be made better (we do this with products we choose to publish and those we do not).
-There will be simple, clear contracts for each author that stipulate:
a.Your material will always remain your copyrighted material:
b. In exchange for the the agreed upon compensation, you will be giving BHP the right to publish your submitted material exclusively for two years and then non-exclusively after two years (So if you and your material become a hot item, you can take your original material and self-publish it or give it to another publisher after two years, but BHP retains the right to publish your submitted material from now on. I know that some authors do not like this, but I am not going to use a bunch of my resources and time perfecting a product that I can only publish for a short period of time. And honestly, many publishers require perpetual exclusive rights to your submitted material - BHP does not.):
c. And you will be fully compensated within 30 days of signing and returning the contract to BHP (I always make complementary copies part of the compensation as well).
While we do work with professional writers, BHP specializes in working with writers who are just getting their start in publishing.
The kinds of material I am looking for and the typical compensation for them are*:
Small articles suitable as pdf releases ($15-$35)
Single session adventures and short supplements ($50-$100)
Large Modules and supplements ($75+)
*The size of the material as well as the publishing experience of the author are taken into account. These are just examples. Each author and I work out a suitable compensation for each project. I have only listed these numbers so that I won't be flooded with emails asking me how much BHP pays.
Please submit your material to: brave.halfling.publishing@gmail.com
Thank you!
