Someone someday should compile a list of decent shows that Fox created and killed after one season or less. Firefly was a prime example. I think that Space: Above and Beyond is another. (I think they are killing Fringe by moving it to Fridays, but that probably doesn't count since they're on season 3 now.) I remember watching the original pilot of S:AaB when it came out and remember it being decent enough. I found the DVD set at a used bookstore and decided to give it a shot. I found I didn't remember much about it except for Kristen Cloke. I swear that it's like watching a show for the first time. The premise is that there are a bunch of Space Marines (like in Starship Troopers) who fly space fighter "jets" (like in Top Gun) from a spacecraft carrier (like in Battlestar Galactica). I know this sounds like a rip-off of a bunch of shows, but so far I'm 5 episodes into the show and it seems pretty fresh and interesting. It reminds me a lot of Traveller in feel, not having spiffy phasers, light sabres, warp drives or transporters. It's a bunch of humans (and some cloned guys called "tanks" because they were grown in a tank) with guns out there fighting a war and shooting alien bad-guys. The only bad thing is that somehow I seem to recall that the series ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Not looking forward to that. Anyone else remember this show, and what do you think of it?

I watched the entire series when it was on the air, and bought the DVD set a couple of years ago. It was not quite as good as I remember, but still a good show with some great episodes; the best in my opinion was the two part episode involving an alien "Red Baron."
It was a very gritty and realistic future setting without the squeaky clean feeling of Star Trek. This was something I really liked about the show and an element that the new Battlestar used to great effect.
The final episode was a non-ending, but did wrap up some story lines one way or another (this was a war story after all).
It would make a great setting for a game.

I remembered seeing part of the pilot when it was on. I discovered the full set and bought it, but I've only watched the pilot since then.
Not a bad show, but I just have so many other things distracting me.

The final episode was a non-ending, but did wrap up some story lines one way or another (this was a war story after all). By "non-ending" do you mean they left things pretty much open but wrapped up enough plotlines so that I won't hate myself when I watch the end? I had pondered watching all of it except for the final episode, if that makes a better stopping point.

By 'non-ending' I meant that the war does not end with the series. It's worth watching the last episode. The last three episodes are actually closely linked. The final episode leaves you feeling a bit empty inside, but as I said, it's a war story. Don't expect a happy ending.

Fin, did you make it to the end of Space: A&B yet?
