Anyone read those?
I'm trying to read or re-read a bunch of the Appendix N books and I scored 5 of these on e-bay.
I'm about 40 pages through "Warrior At World's End" (Book 1) and I hate it. The setting is kind of ERB Mars-like, but not Mars. The writing just doesn't flow at all for me. I finally had to put it down and go back to something else for a while.
Does the series get better or am I just wasting my time?

I'm trying to remember if that's the Thongor stories. I've read one Thongor story, in an anthology. Actually, that's the only Lin Carter fiction I've ever read, to my knowledge. Didn't really stick in my mind as all that great.

The writing just doesn't flow at all for me. I finally had to put it down and go back to something else for a while. Is there any book/series that's universally liked? Having had 25+ years of campaign setting out of those rather than Jack Vance's books, it's safe to say I'll give them a general thumbs up for ideas even though, as is often the case, Lin did run out steam and headed off to other projects. Does the series get better or am I just wasting my time? Define "better". Also odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=fiction&thread=4766&page=1#58571

Okay, so it's "Warrior Of World's End" and maybe not so much like ERB's Mars. That's just the best I could do after 40 pages. The setting seems to be a dying world a few million years into the future and I haven't found anything really "Swords & Sorcery" in it yet. The whole "super dude arrive mysteriously and knows nothing" intro didn't seem that innovative. I presume I should give it a bit more time?

I got a few more chapters into the book, and the interest level is starting to perk up. I guess I shouldn't give up on a book 40 pages in....

Most of Lin's novels were pretty short anyway, right Marv?---if you're 40 pgs in, then your probably 1/4 to 1/3 through with the book? I read several of Lin's fictions over the years, and while he's not my favorite author or pasticher, he definitely has some gems worth checking out (IMO particularly in his editing/scholarship roles).
