Taking a look at the trails you realize that Liam knows his woodcraft, you might have missed that group back tracking if he hadn't pointed them out to you...but from knowing the area just a bit better your not happy with the group heading northwest. They are heading into some small foothills and the only thing there are the ruins of the Blackthorne Abbey. Clerics who studied there were dedicated to Loviatar (pronounced loh-VEE-a-tar) goddess of pain, hurt and torture. "These guys sound like worthy adversaries," votes Kib.

OOC: I suppose I wasn't very specific. You said the group was 12 miles away from the foothills. Do you mean the foothills of the Fang Mountains or just some random foothills? I am in the habit of making apologies today, just a range of small foothills, your not sure if the small mountain range has a name...

Erimus fidgets with the Holy symbol about his neck as he considers Galax's position thoughtfully. "We may yet have the advantage of surprise," he conjectures. "But I fear we would be hard tested to manage the week's march to Rivers Edge without supplies -- in this weather." he indicates the snowy landscape with a sweep of his gauntleted hand. "As for the Lady Corrine, I cannot abandon her to these brigands when her need is most dire..." he leaves the grim implications of the Lady's position unspoken. He thinks more upon this as the others carry out their investigations of the immediate surrounds... I would much rather make for Rivers Edge, rearm, get information on what we face, maybe get some help and then come back. (emphasis added) OOC: Can the ref please confirm for us whether we (the PCs) have all of our starting gear? Rations? Left over coin?

As morning dawns and the group begins it's morning routines Liam can see that the Red Caps were being more cautious then they normally are but still not good enough to fool his trained eye. Three groups separated from the battle one group marched back along the caravans path, no more than a dozen in that group...and they were the most stealthy. The second group made up of a booted feet marched along the path the caravan would have taken, complete with a set of wagon tracks... The third mixed group made hast heading northwest, traveling quickly and for the most part light though at least one of the sets of booted feet was carrying a load but still maintaining a good pace. If not already done, Liam tells the rest of the party the results he found from examining the tracks. And then he comments on them... "The group who made the tracks heading back the way we came do not appear to have any prisoners with them. Indeed, they were the most stealthy and I'd venture to say they are off to ambush another party or try to finish us off should we head back." "The second group, heading in the direction of Rivers Edge, could have anything with them - prisoners, loot, supplies - I presume that is where we would find the missing draft horses, as well." "The third group looks like it consisted of several goblins carrying heavy loads - again, could have been loot or it could have been captives. I think it most likely they have the captives, though." "I offer no opinion on our course of action except to say that delaying pursuit of the captives for long could easily end in dead captives."

GALAX to ERIMUS - "I've no love of goblins or abandoning prisoners to them. I also have no love of heading off in pursuit without provisions or information either."
GALAX to LIAM - "Did you see horse tracks?"
GALAX to ERIMUS - "It could be that catching up with the group heading to Rivers Edge may get us some supplies, and information. We can use that to make a decision to continue to the town or head off in pursuit."
Galax doesn't appear frightened, more thoughtful. The big 6' tall muscular guy seems to be thinking slowly and then speaking.

Fennick shares his vision with the group.
Sarenrae favors us. She has sent me visions suggesting that followers of Loviatar, both men and goblin, be behind the attack on the caravan.
If the third track was the only track with mixed footprints, that is the likely direction that would lead to the most answers.
Plus, if good Master Liam believes this group most likely carries Lady Corrine, I propose we advance on that group.
Tis true, as Master Galax suggests, that said course may lead to our doom, but the other groups are likely just as dangerous.

GALAX just shakes his head, but keeps his counsel to himself. He checks his armor and weapons and pack to make sure he's got the things that have kept him alive so far in life.

GALAX to LIAM - "Did you see horse tracks?" Liam nods, "Yeah, looks like our two draft horses." Then he throws his lot into the game and says, "I'm not opposed to following the wagons to see if we can get our supplies back before checking out the foothills. But it might be that they now have an eight hour head start on us and our time would be better spent tracking the party with the captives."

Erimus listens attentively to all the councils offered by the company members, but is decisively swayed by that offered by Fennick -- who has received a vision from God.
Nothing could now be made clearer to Erimus, save an Angel alighting from Heaven to instruct otherwise.
"Lead on, Master Liam," he invites the tracker, bowing his head in gracious deference to the fellow's obvious talent...

Liam nods and begins following the trail into the foothills, scanning the tracks for any deviations and trying to make better sense of what they might be following, as it relates to numbers and races.

Nigel looks at his pile of things he collected and shrugs his shoulders and heads off with the group carrying his staff, stops and cleans his hands and face and catches up.

Fennick holds his holy symbol and whispers a short benediction to his Lady Liege. With a deep breath and a cough he fastens his shield, tightens his grip on his wooden club, and follows behind Liam and Nigel.
May Sarenrae bless us all this morn, he wheezes.

GALAX mutters something about "fools of blind faith leading us to death" and moves to the middle of the group, since he's the most ordinary of his heavily muscled/geared companions. He'll have his spear and shield held in hand.

Nigel will travel where he fits in the best and step whee he is being told, as he knows enough to leave this to the professionals.
"Sablerams's guide to the outdoors and survival manual would come in helpful here I suppose gentlemen?"

The weather begins to turn a little sour, the temperature beings to drop, but the wind does not pick up and though there are a few snow flurries nothing that would be a steady snow....
The group continues to make their way to the foothills when Fennick you notice that there is at least one wolf that is padding beside the party, he seems to be staying some 100' away and Fennick your not sure if there is more than one wolf or not...
(Only Fennick has noticed this so far...)

Breathing heavily to keep up with the group, Fennick notices a wolf following along the party some.
"It seems we are being followed by lupine interlopers. Good masters," Fennick huffs to the group, "do you have any ideas on how to deal with wolves?" .

Erimus pauses to catch his breath and survey the surrounds for any sign of wolves.
Whether he espies the creature or not he comments, "Such animals are doubtless in search of food. Alas we have none to cast out to distract them, but perhaps they will scent the remains of our attackers and sate their hunger there..?"

Even traveling at the slower pace you can see Fennick is struggling, you now know that the wolves mentioned are just waiting for him to fall out or down....

"If the wolf was going to head off to the attackers, it wouldn't be pacing us. Pull your head from the clouds and let's prepare for the inevitable. Otherwise, you can go first to meet your Maker. Unless you're gonna let your poor boy go first..."

"In Theronuses's "Lupine's and there Ways" if we see one pacing us they are either one of about eight others or a scout for those who raise them; Northerners or Goblinius, I suppose that does not help much...." Nigel

Liam turns and heads back towards the party.
"Erimus, they're waiting to pick you off."
He stares at the heavy plate armour and sighs.
"I suppose we'll have to either slow down our pace or take care of the danger."
[OOC] How close is the wolf getting? Within bow range?
