James on Grognardia mentioned Encounter critical recently and that got me thinking about it. Then I remembered that you can download it. Anyone actually play this game? I have a paper copy but haven't ever given it a try. Could be fun, however.

No, although it looks seriously fun. I am, though, going to use its world as the basis of my next D&D campaign.

I was in an online game that didn't last long. My character wasn't effective at fighting, and unfortunately that's all we did (it was an arena for our first adventure).
It's pretty good at showing how all the different stats can work together to make a better fighter (or whatever). There are a lot of tables, but they work.
There's a lot missing, too, in a good old-school sort of way. But that's part of the fun.

Hmmm. I found a couple of other threads on Encounter Critical on these very boards. They were hidden in the "Third Party and other non-TSR" section but I moved them over here to "General SciFi."
