Does anyone use an SS roll as a saving throw for anything other than polymorph? I'm thinking of expanding the range of uses for it, as I like the idea of having a save that is directly tied to an ability score, and I'd love to hear if anyone has done this kind of thing already.

I don't actually do any of this in AD&D as I'm not involved in any AD&D games, but... I imagine you could use SS for any wholesale bodily transformations including flesh to stone (and vis versa), gaseous form, diminution, and all kinds of polymorph. You might even rule that some variations of teleport or gate spells required a SS roll. And what about electrocution by lightning-bolt? And other "critical" or massive damage hits that might slay a character outright? And there's always the off chance of having to roll a SS check for being frozen in carbonite

I've also always used the SS roll for critical or massive damage. Anything on my crit charts that result in a limb loss or serious internal injuries or any damage that is greater than half of the character's beginning hit points requires a SS.
