Carrion Crawlers have made a wonderful appearance in my current campaign, as have Rot Grubs. I love them both!

1. Orcs The main foot soldier of Mordor and others. Orcs (goblins) on Wargs! What's not to love!? 2. High-Orcs The main foot soldier of Isengard. What's not to like. they can stand toe to toe with Rohan. 3. Trolls (Ogres) The Tolkien Troll which is more like an Ogre. Not the monstrous Ogres of the movies but the intelligent ones of the Hobbit.

3. Trolls (Ogres) The Tolkien Troll which is more like an Ogre. Not the monstrous Ogres of the movies but the intelligent ones of the Hobbit. In Chainmail, and even Od&d, there's a discrete difference which is made between Trolls and True Trolls. The first one is equal to ogre, so It fits exactly your suggestion avec Tolkien troll. The second one is clearly the Poul Anderson's Troll, which became the classical d&d troll. The wandering monsters tables of First Fantasy Campaign also clearly show there are two types of trolls. And I keep this idea for Epées & Sorcellerie, where you can meet lesser / grey trolls, and High / true trolls.

Yes. But if I had said "Ogres like the ones in the Hobbit" you would have said, "Technically, they are trolls!" But I get what you mean. Trolls regen, while Ogres do not.

Yes, and I would give lesser trolls 4HD. But this one among others stranges associations in Od&d, like the Gnolls / Hobgoblins connection, which I still can't explain.
