Thanks for the heads up! I will be going, just emailed him now, and will try (despite busy schedule) to ask our full laundry list of questions. Bring 'em on!

Great Tavis! You participated at his last Braunstein game, didnt you?
I think it would be interesting to hear what Wesely thought of Arnesons first runs with Blackmoor compared to the Major's Braunstein games.
Also, I would like to hear more about his adventures there.
Who did Wesely play Blackmoor with? I'm pretty sure he played with Ross Maker, but not sure who of the others were part of the first games, as Wesely left for Vietnam fairly early.
If he mentions other players, does he remember anything about their characters?

I was at the talk he gave leading up to the Braunstein recreation in 2008, but had to leave before the game itself.
Do you want to send me a list of Blackmoor players and/or their PCs (like I've seen you compile in another thread)? Maybe we could go over that to see if it jogs his memory any.

Here's a list of the known original players: odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=blackmoor&action=display&thread=684I would also add: Bill Hoyt Marshal Hegfeld (Spl?) - Marfeldt the Barbarian Stephen Rocheford - Stephen the Rock Havard

Will anyone else be @ Gen Con and interested in this? I'm hoping to get a critical mass of Braunstein players together for Saturday from noon until 4, as this is one of the few times I'm free.
In his email, Maj. Wesely suggests that all interested folks will get together on Thursday - ideally between 2 and 4, when I'm available - to compare schedules, but I figure I'll try agitating for mine ASAP!

I met, and played Braunstein I with, David Wesely and Ross Maker. I had my list of players but time prevented going through them. I did, however, take notes on a number of awesome stories about the early days of the Blackmoor campaign, which I'm going to run by them for accuracy and then post at The Mule Abides (will put links in this thread then).
I also ran two sessions of Blackmoor Dungeon, having a great time & vowing to do it for maybe 12 or 24 hours continuous next year. I'll post more about that too. Two of the players were big Blackmoor fans from the Zeitgeist era, who were fun to play with, expert dungeoneers, and very impressed by my copy of FFC which they'd never seen. One of these guys pointed out that Dustin Clingman would be a great source of info on players and stories from the years Dave was running Blackmoor in Florida.
All of which made me think it'd be cool to do a Blackmoor campaign wiki with a page for every player in every Blackmoor game ever. On first pass, it'd be a great way to organize information gleaned from the old-timers, and also a cool way to communicate to new blood that they're part of a grand tradition. I didn't collect the necessary info from my Gen Con players, but might be able to get it from the con registration system; I think I could recreate the player list from both of my Arneson memorial gameday runs.

This is amazing! I am so much looking forward to reading these! Hehe, that is cool. I've been a little disappointed about not seeing more of a web presence from the ZG era fans. Did they mention this at all? Looking forward to hearing more about your games. You are doing a great job promoting Blackmoor! That is a good point. I have talked to Dustin about alot of things, but I never thought about asking him about those games. He has a Q&A thread at the Comeback Inn Forum so it might be worth contacting him there. That is a great idea! I will have to think some more about this. -Havard

All of which made me think it'd be cool to do a Blackmoor campaign wiki with a page for every player in every Blackmoor game ever. It's a neat idea, but becomes tricky if these games are continuing. In other words, every year there's another GenCon (or other "official" game) this would need continual updating. Also, who would determine an official Blackmoor game? Run by Arneson only? Would you include the Wesley games, the "Arneson Tribute" games, and so on? Slippery slope if we're not careful. I like the concept, but it would probably need some refinement and discussion first.

I don't think it would be official at all - if you ran a Blackmoor game, you could update the page to add your players, story from the game, etc.
Of course, the ones anyone else would care to update would be the famous ones, but I think it'd be fine to have no bar to entry (just a historical tree structure so the most core ones would be at the trunk).
One issue is player real names - some folks might prefer to use forum handles, etc.
