It came down last week that Gygax Games--apparently without much explanation--pulled every license that Gary Gygax had granted to Troll Lord Games. Lejendary Adventures has been licensed to Mongoose. There is no word as to what will happen with Castle Zagyg. So once again, after waiting over 30 years to see the insides of the original Castle Greyhawk, we get a tantalizing peek at the top four levels, and may not get anything else. At least, nothing we can easily use if they (as many suspect) go 4e with it. Nobody's sure what's going on at this point: is this a purely business decision by Gail Gygax, who just wants to make as much cash as she can from the product? Was there another reason she decided TLG wasn't right for the CZ project, even after quite a lot of excellent product was released for the property under their banner? By all reports the various and sundry delays weren't the fault of TLG, and Gail should be aware of that, so one would hope that's not her reasoning. Certainly it seems odd, as Gary said time and again that he felt C&C was the spiritual successor to AD&D, and the "true" 3rd edition, in his mind. He also said that Troll Lord Games was where he wanted Castle Zagyg. But then, they also fired Jeff Talanian from the project, and Gary personally groomed Jeff to take over for him "if the worst happened," which it has. There's precious little to go on, now, but some discussion has taken place over at their forums at www.gygax-games.com. Just thought I'd drop a heads' up. Discuss as you like.

I honestly don't give a ripe rip what system is used, all I really want is the maps to populate as I please. And I can't grudge Mrs. Gygax for wanting to cash in on her inheritance, it's her property now and she should be able to do as she likes with it.
But what they did to Jeff Talanian wasn't right.

I honestly don't give a ripe rip what system is used... I do. I get tired of converting because newer systems are always so information-heavy. Give me something with small monster stat-blocks so I can focus on the important stuff instead of having to cut the details. Also, I belive that not all game systems create the same atmosphere for a game. Seeing an original Gygax dungeon published in RuneQuest, for example, would bother me because it's so different from what it was originally. (Just to halt rumors, I just used RQ as an example. There is no talk of doing this.)
