For me, I have to go through hoops to have babysitting all set up, but none of my players have kids. Sessions are always cancelled in the last week with an "Oops I have plans on Saturday can we move it to the next Saturday?" Edit: I have 4 players, will play with only 3, but I get this request in duplicate when I get it.

I'd be inclined to use the following threat: "Okay, listen up! Anybody who says they'll be here, and then cancels? THEY get to babysit next time I want to see a movie. GOT IT?" (Pity they're so unreliable that you probably wouldn't trust them with your children.)

I agree. That's horrible. What I used to do was force everyone to come to our house so that my kids had access to their own toys while we played. Obviously, this diminishes play somewhat but it did solve the babysitting issue a little. My players just had to deal with the fact that the kids were around.
Ironically, we played more when the kids were smaller. Now that they are in high school, but part of my gaming group, it's even harder just to schedule days. My son does speech team competitions every weekend (kills Friday and Saturday evenings) while my daughter does football and basketbal cheerleading (kills evenings with home and road games). It's not just that they are busy, but that I'm busy watching them.

Kids do change the playing field a great deal. For most of my friends who are parents, it's either they host gaming themselves and everyone deals with the kids, or we don't play at all. Most of us are 100% fine with that--our friends' kids rarely bother us all that much. I'm the kind of guy who despises kids in general, but actually likes most of my friends' children.
