Not to turn this into the Fiction thread, but I keep seeing Ghormengast in a three-in-one-volume set at bookstores, but I just never picked it up. I need to read more. Well, you need to read those books FOR SURE. Pick it up next time you see it---I own the same edition, and that particular setting inspired a campaign world I've been working on in different iterations since I was 17...

Actually, Will, why not submit it to FO!? It's actually what people have been clamoring for over on that forum...

Nice job Coffee! Reminds me of the map in B2 only a lot more detailed. This is a great example. This sort of thing should've been in all the rules back to Holmes.

Holy cow! I didn't expect this kind of response. Maybe I will submit this to Fight On!
I apologize to anybody who couldn't download the pdf. I don't know where else to host such files. Any volunteers?
I tried to come up with something small, and something that wasn't finished -- twenty different referees could run this and have twenty completely different worlds. And that's the point. It's not a detailed blueprint -- it's a sketch, a back-of-the-envelope scribble that might become a blueprint.
So. I've shown it can be done. NOW will somebody take the challenge and join me?

Is there a one-page template for cities/towns? Although maybe I should just use the wilderness hex map for a Triumphant Grand Tactical kind of city-map.

I'm planning on using the Dungeon template for the towns (or sort of). I'll just change the scale if need be (for smaller towns, 1 square = 10' would still work).
Although I'm working on a different template of my own...

I'd be happy to host it for you on my googlesite, or show you how to set up your own site, if you like (you have a google acct. already, so it'd take you maybe a half an hour to do it), or host it for you until you decide to make your own site, or whatever... In fact... Northmarch

Okay, this is getting ridiculous! I've detailed the villages from the Barony of Northmarch. Not quite as much whimsy, but I think the format is viable. I've sent the template to Chgowiz, hoping he'll host it with his others (since I hacked it from his). It's here if you want to see it.

Over on DF, harmyn has put a link up of his Principality of Kedmere, which was, I think, inspired by this thread. Admittedly two pages, but it fits well with the manifesto. This is what he had to say:

That's awesome! Have an exalt for carrying the torch!
My favorite hexes are 0204, 0503 and 0801 -- but others are really close.
Do you have stats you could share on the Boojum, Bandersnatch, Jabberwock and JubJub Bird? As I recall, Lewis Carroll didn't exactly write them up for game purposes...

Thanks ! No, not yet. I suppose I would like them to be as much a mystery as posssible until I sprang them on the players BUT there are some stats for B/X that I'd probably adapt.

As much as I like the idea of the One Page Manifesto, it does pose a problem for me. My bad eyes have a great deal of trouble reading the tiny fonts some folks use in order to squeeze everything down to one page. Might I suggest that, although The One Page Manifesto is wonderful, there's nothing wrong with The Two Page Spread! Dungeon map on one page, room descriptions/notes on the other. Hex map of a section of wilderness on one page, places of interest described on the other. If you're putting this in a document (magazine, book, etc) just make sure you format things so Page one is on the left and page two is on the right...no flipping back and forth...and you have most of the advantages of TOPM without the evil tiny fonts.

I hear ya!
I'm wearing bifocals, myself, but some things are still pretty darn small.
I've been leaning toward the two-page spread myself, I just haven't gotten around to doing anything with it. But your point about the layout thereof is well taken. (I hate having a book and having to flip back and forth when it would have been no trouble to put it on facing pages!)

If you rip a single page out of a book, it has two sides. So as far as I'm concerned, you're not being unfaithful to the manifesto if the document has "two" pages.

I like the two-page spread. One page for the map and the other for the key. They go into a binder facing each other and work great.

If you rip a single page out of a book, it has two sides. So as far as I'm concerned, you're not being unfaithful to the manifesto if the document has "two" pages. I think you're being faithful to the manifesto as long as you use the minimum practical amount of space to get your material down. Look at the four "towns" (in quotes because one is a castle) I did for Northmarch; none of them needed a full page so I didn't feel the need to pad them out and make them full-pagers. The One Page Manifesto (as I see it) isn't a strict discipline like a haiku or a sonnet, it is rather a reaction to the bloated worldbooks that some other gamers like to produce. So go ahead and do two pages. Call it the "One Page Manifesto -- Large Print Edition," if you like. ;D ;D ;D

Oh man, I remember as a kid in the late 70's pretty much having a zero-page manifesto. No dungeon lay-out, no overland map. Just the name of a tavern that was near the dungeon. Pretty much operated out of the three original books, and randomized almost everything. Sprinkle liberally with whatever my jacked-up 14 year old mind could come up with, and you have some true old school "winging it."
Coming up with names for NPC's on the spot without coming up with something lame was the biggest challenge (until the 80's when I always had a baby name book in my game bag).
