In addition to complaining about being "robbed", I am actually curious why it was designed this way.
Fighters saving throws start at 15. Everyone else starts at 14.
Fighters bonus save is +1. Everyone else has a +2 bonus save.
(I don't feel that the fighters lack of Armor and Weapons Restrictions or the Combat Machine Ability compensates for a poor saving throw.)
Why the poor Saving Throw for Fighters?

Clerics are also better at melee at high levels, because they hit level 20 while the fighter is still at level 15. It's an anacronism from the original game.

Why the poor Saving Throw for Fighters? They know less about magic than the other classes, therefore they have a lesser chance at recognizing a magical attack before it hits them, dodging it due to spider senses tingling, breaking it through superior willpower, that sort of thing.
