Something I have wondered about, are the Elf abilities as per Chainmail. The big one that seems to get ignored is the Elf's ability to perform split move and fire. Since initiative (or lack there of) is a recent topic, and combat is always good for some healthy debate, how do you interpret this?
For the sake of arguement, I will be using miniatures to illustrate my point. Let us say the characters have initiative, or it is the elf's turn to declare actions. Our theoretical elf will be armed with a normal long bow, and is wearing chainmail. So he moves 9" and can split move and fire. My guess is that a move of 4" or 5" is allowed before shooting, and then movement is resumed. This would indicate elves fire missles jut about faster than anything else in OD&D. Would he get to fire twice? My guess is no, because he did move.

That sounds good to me!
It might just make the difference between medium and short range, too.

Archers with split-move-and-fire may fire once during the round. This is the way we do it, and we allow elves to fire twice per round if not moving.
