Based on what you've said here already, I think you are doing well. It sure sounds like the descriptions I've heard of old school play.
I haven't run OD&D yet (and I only played it once), but the way you describe it is the way I want to run it.

What do you think about my game so far? I hope I can get feedback from you guys, since I'm quite new to OD&D. I'm very interested in the "OD&D way" which I'm finding fascinating, and I want to learn as much as possible. Any comments are well received. Your introduction was spot-on and it's cool that the players seemed to understand and embrace the vibe you were going for. I look forward to reading about how things turned out once the actual adventuring started

In Argentina you can usually just go to a gaming club (DMs enter for free) and players will just sit at your table. By the way, any OD&D gamers in New York?? I'll be living for about 5 months in NY next year, studying at Fordham. I would love to get into a OD&D game while I'm there.

I think that Argentina has little to none old-school gamers not because of choice, but because of ignorance. As I have already said, in Argentina, everything older that AD&D 2e is sorta prehistoric in the RPG history of the country. ;D

Exalt for your excellent work!
I'm very pleased that you are sharing OD&D with your countrymen. Maybe Argentina can become a center of OD&D activity!
I am enjoying this thread and looking forward to hearing the particulars of the session.
Also, your English is just fine. I don't have any problems understanding what you mean.

Thank you very much Korgoth!
That would be a dream, but It's impossible. I can bet I'm the ONLY OD&D DM down here.

Here you have some of my notes to the "Dungeon Key". They are written 80% Spanish, 10% English and 10% Spanglish ;D You may not understand anything, but they'll give you an idea of how I prepared my dungeon for the event. This reflects my method for old-school prep.

First of all, I am never sir to my friends. Your English is just fine, so don't worry about that, if there is ever anything we don't understand we will ask, most of us aren't shy. ;D I love the way you introduced the game to them, for a one-shot starting them out at 4th level is an excellent idea. Personally a one-shot is the only place that I would start them above 1st level, but there it is very appropriate. I think you set the atmosphere and the stage for a great game and I cannot wait to hear (read) more. You are off to a great start as an OD&D Ref. You are doing just fine. Oh and have an Exalt! You certainly deserve one!

I don't think what we have here is the same thing. Most of the groups I've been associated with were groups of friends who met in one person's home. Otherwise, there are game stores where you can play. The problem with this is that the game store owners (with few exceptions) want you to run games that they sell, so they can sell more and make a profit and stay open. That's good for them, but nobody sells OD&D in stores any more, so that doesn't work for the closest store to my home (it's about a mile away, so I could easily walk there). The store I'd most likely be able to run such a game at is 2 or 3 busses away, depending on the day of the week. Not really much of an option. I had a group, we met at the DM's house, but that has fallen by the wayside for over a year now. They're the ones I'd like to introduce to old school D&D - they're mostly rules lawyers and I'd like to shake them out of their rut.

I just have to say that I was inspired by the DM screen you made. I've gone ahead and made one of my own.
What did you put on the DM side? I could only think to put the Saving Throws, Men Attacking and Monster Attacking, and Cleric Turning Undead tables.

One of the other things that I put on it is I have a little clips attached so that I can post for myself the random encounter tables that I want to use for that evening or if they go a direction that I had not anticipated and it calls for different types of encounters I can quickly switch the encounter tables that I am using.

It dawned on me last night that I could use some of the blank space to paraphrase the rules in Vol. III for finding secret doors and setting off traps and such. Also encounter distances. But that's really about it -- I don't think I'll need much more than that.
