In honor of the late, great Morgan vs Aleena thread over at dragonsfoot.org, who shall it be? Dejah "kidnapped again" Thoris, princess of Helium, or Thuvia, "banth whisperer" and princess of Ptarth?
(Can anyone find some good images of the Michael Whelan covers of A Princess of Mars and Thuvia, Maid of Mars?)

Definitely Thuvia. She's got spunk. EDIT: P.S. Here's the cover illo of the version of Thuvia, Maid of Mars I have. Don't know if it's the one you're talking about or not

Given the option, either, though I voted for Thuvia

Gotta be Dejah Thoris. She was awesome enough to grab the attention of the greatest warrior on Barsoom.
The pictures posted by Bargle do make it a tough decision, though. It's close.....

Is it just me, or are they physically identical? I know of Dejah Thoris, but have yet to read about Thuvia, so I shall refrain from voting just yet. Going green though, hmmm...

I remember reading these books as a 5th grader many long years ago, I have been getting some of these books again and they still are just as much fun as there were when I read them the first time. ERB could really tell a tale.
My vote is for Dejah Thoris all the way!

Here are some Frazetta visuals to help us decide. Dejah Thoris: Thuvia: I find Thuvia more alluring in the two color images, but that B&W of Dejah really...um...speaks to me somehow.

I vote for Dejah Thoris, now that is a woman to travel between planets for.

Dejah and John Yep, this is my vote. From the cover of my 1981 17th printing Del Rey paperback. Stunning cover! ;D

Alright, Dejah Thoris takes the lead! My kind of woman! And Frazetta's drawing of her just rocks!

Gotta appreciate the musculature on JC; I'd go the extra distance for him. (You didn't really expect me to vote to battle across a planet for some woman, did you?)
As for the gals, I'm glad to see from her tan lines that Frazetta's Dejah doesn't wear that top very often; she's gonna start to sag if she doesn't get proper support. Kudos for her personal trainer's workouts, though. Those abs and quads are in excellent shape. Question: does she have arms??

Yeah, she has arms, if you look her right hand is right beside her right hip next to the top of his boot.
I have to admit I love your posts!

My vote goes to The Incomparable Dejah Thoris!
Was just thinking about her yesterday. Those are good covers, but based on Burroughs's description, Dejah Thoris has got to be one of the greatest beauties in literature.
Though Thuvia is pretty hot, too. I loved when women would throw themselves at John Carter. Have you guys read Llana of Gathol? It's hilariously funny! At that point Burroughs is parodying his own series. Fun, but I was always disappointed that the series didn't delve more into the REAL mystery--John Carter's past exploits and the reason for his immortality (or at least extreme longevity). Regards.

Sad that Tars Tarkas has gotten no votes. Maybe that means that people are taking this poll seriously!

To paraphrase the Cat from Red Dwarf:
"Oh, I'd GO with Thuvia, but I'd be THINKING about Dejah Thoris."

Say ... anyone else notice that Dejah Thoris is always known as "Dejah Thoris" and never just "Dejah" or "Miss Thoris" or "Her Highness Dejah" or anything like that? Is that strange, or what?

I'd roll with Miss Thoris any day of the (longer) Martian week.

Dejah "kidnapped again" Thoris, princess of Helium It's a bit suspicious that, now that you mention it... JOHN CARTER: I have arrived just in time! The fiend intended to force you into a fate worse than death! DEJAH THORIS: Wah? Oh, John...yeah, kidnapped again, fate worse than death. I'll just get dressed, relatively speaking. EVIL SCIENTIST/WIZARD: Edgar Rice Burroughs never wrote Smartest Man on Mars did he Carter?

That's a tough question posed to ME!
In real life, my romantic devotion is to a lady long since married to someone else (hence my practical role as a "bounder" to whatever rare degree my liaisons approach that young-folks context). Anyone else, real or fictional, is by nature of not being HER not a viable object of such a passion.
I'll have to read some stories again. They are both in my recollection worthy girls not to be trifled with.
