From the timeline:
"Sildonis clears out Pete's Place and becomes the new Wizard of the Wood."
Which wood is this exactly? The Redwood? What does it mean to be the Wizard of the Wood, beyond having a cool name?

Pete Gaylord was the original "Wizard of the Wood."
Quote from p.19 of the First Fantasy Campaign: This map shows Blackmoor Castle, the town and the immediate area. All those areas named in the first years of play are labeled. Some names were later changed by the players so that Troll Bridge became known as Mello's Bridge and the gate there as the Garbage Gate rather than Troll Gate as originally named. Also the East Gate became known as Gerri's Gate (named after Gertrude the Dragon who was killed there by the Baddies). The Wizard of the Wood became Pete's Place, etc.. . .
In page 20 of FFC there is a map of Blackmoor and "Wizard of the Wood" is listed in the upper right (North-East) corner.
Maybe Robert the Bald or the Great Svenny will show up to give us more details.

Pete was our resident wizard and had a house in the woods north east of the town, as I recall. He was always referred to as the wizard of the woods.
I remember someone going in and ransacking his place, but don't remember much more than that. I was present the day it happened, but was not directly involved. I might have been playing in a napoleonic miniatures battle instead of D&D...

Thanks guys! So his home was simply in a small forested area then? I always found his title so evocative. It would be cool if his power came from the woods...or if he could summon sylvan creatures etc... Gertrude the Dragon was killed? *Shock* Havard PS: Fin, I love how you refer to the Blackmoor players by their character names

PS: Fin, I love how you refer to the Blackmoor players by their character names What? You mean they're real people?

PS: Fin, I love how you refer to the Blackmoor players by their character names What? You mean they're real people? Yeh, it's hard to realize that I/my character has become an NPC in other peoples campaigns. I was shocked and a little bit upset when I realized it for the first time. A total change in perspective for me...

I can imagine. It must indeed be strange to have created and lived a character for all these years, then read some blurb in a RPG book about that character's motivation and whatnot in some other campaign. Kind of creepy. :-)
