Who wants to have a go at a Carcosa PbP? Reffed by me, using odds n ends off this board, the Grimoire once it is out and various other ODD resources suitably mutated.

Where would you run it? Here, on rpol, elsewhere?

Rpol has some nice utilities that would make such a thing easier to do, but here fellow Old Schoolers would be able to read it as it went along, so it's up to the players.

I'd open a spot up here on these boards if there is any interest in this. Carcosa was kind of born here and it would be cool to see its first PBP game hosted here as well.
That's assuming that Geoffrey is okay with it and doesn't want the honor of running the first Carcosa game.

The Carcosan Grimoire will be out tomorrow .... I received Geoffrey's introduction in e-mail this morning. I will edit the manuscript and post a link to the PDF tomorrow before 1000 hours Central Time (-5 Zulu, I think).

I'd like a slot in the game, by the way. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

It belongs to all of us.

I'd love to get in too, though I am without a copy of Carcossa (yet) - so, if not, I'd certainly be interested in following along!

Okedokee - dice roller at: invisiblecastle.com/Everyone who has posted so far can join in, but do bear in mind that at first level in an environment as dangerous as Carcosa casualties may initially be high. Characters: Strongly suggest that all PCs be the same colour, and that that colour be Brown, though if you wish to be different then that is up to you. The initial scenario is based around a nomadic Brown culture; if you are a Brown Nomad tell me, if not tell me what sort of place you grew up, and what you are doing in the Blighted Lands. When you roll for stats, use 3d6 six times in order Strength to Charisma, but bear in mind the jiggery-pokery with stat trade offs on page 10 of Men and Magic, and if your PC is an utter weed I may show mercy and off him with a laser pistol before play. When you roll send the following supplementary rolls: 1d10 for minor skills that may or may not prove useful The Brown Nomad table is: 1-2 Hunting/Gathering 3-4 Herding 5 Woodwork 6 Leatherwork 7 Herblore 8 Hot Air Balloon Pilot 9 Bowyer and Fletcher 10 None Others I will adjudicate as necessary. Astrology: Roll 1d12 for Birthsign, if you get 10-12, roll another, if you get 10-12 roll yet another. These will give bonuses and/or penalties, but I'd like to keep them as a secret for the moment. Starsigns in Carcosa: There are nine starsigns, each taking 40 degrees of the sky. These are not neccessarily constellations, but are the most significant object in the sky along the ecliptic. 1 The Tentacled One - A constellation with many variable stars that changes shape constantly. 2 The Nebula of the Vaporous Lizard/Azathoth - a large misty patch in the sky that allegedly drives people mad if they look at it too long 3 Zaphrozh the Maugifer – Constellation depicting an ancient Brown hero famed for being a smartarse and trickster 4 The Broken Bow – Another constellation, sometimes thought to be a laser pistol 5 The Mighty Snake - another ordinary constellation, those born under it are allegedly cold hearted 6 The Void – a huge gap in the sky with no stars. 7 Shub-Niggurath - Looks like some versions of the Goddess anyway. People born under this sign allegedly heal faster. 8 The Ulfire Sisters - A cluster of nine Ulfire stars, according to legend sorceresses who displeased He Who Should Not be Named 9 The Bloody Stain – a swathe of red coloured stars, the casualties of an ongoing war in the heavens 10-12 Re roll until you get 1-9 for basic sign, AND roll another d12 for special astrological features. Equipment: Everyone gets 10gp plus 4 dice worth of equipment from Men and Magic page 14. No actual cash, but may have miscellaneous trade goods up this value. Classes: As per basic Carcosa book, no Brothers of the Skull unless you want to go off and become one in play, and no Witches, but I will allow them as followers. You need not be open about being a sorcerer if you don't want to, PM me if you are taking this option. Alignment: Keep this a secret, PM me with it. Location is off the north east corner of the standard map - means I can launch a few surprises. Apeloverage, start again if you like (zzzzap, phish (or whatever sound boiling brains make)) Once we have PCs rolled up in this thread and with secret elements submitted to me we shall proceed. I'm going to be the not a very nice person who doesn't follow directions! My stats are little on the 'bed-ridden leper' side of the ledger, so I don't think a life of nomadery fits. Meet Gozer, your friendly neighborhood Jale Man! Okay, here we go: Stats STR 4, DEX 12, CON 4, INT 16, WIS 9, CHA 13 Skill: Hunter/Gatherer (probably more of a gatherer...) Astro: 1??? Star: The Void The equip roll directions said 'dice' without specification, so I rolled randomly per CARCOSA rules and got 10-siders for 34gp. Equipment is: light xbow (15), case + 30 bolts (10), sweet Members Only leather backpack (5), 50' rope (1), oil (2), and a quart of merlot (1). HTML STR 4, DEX 12, CON 4, INT 16, WIS 9, CHA 13 BBCode STR 4, DEX 12, CON 4, INT 16, WIS 9, CHA 13Link invisiblecastle.com/stats/view/21245/ Character invisiblecastle.com/roller/search/447356 Campaign invisiblecastle.com/campaign/view/7649/ Skill roll invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2108819/Astro roll invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2108823/Star roll invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2108824/Equip roll dice type invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2108826/Equip roll gold invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2108827/Please place me toward the back of the line, away from anything sharp or that requires a saving throw!

Never used that Invisible Castle tool before, so I messed up a couple times when they asked for 'Character Name' - from now on, I'll try to remember to put in 'Gozer.'

Han Buri-HanBrown male, 20 yrs, shipwright Han Buri-Han is a amiable fellow, not too bright, but quick and nimble with his hands. He is of medium length and strongly built, with long dreadlocks and several bone piercings in his ears, nose and eyebrows. He is openly afraid of magic and very superstitious. He takes great pride in the canoes and other light watercraft he can build. STR 12 INT 8 WIS 11 DEX 15 CON 14 CHA 11Skill: Woodwork (5)Star Sign: The Nebula of the Vaporous Lizard/Azathoth (2)Starting Gold: 41Class: Fighting-Man Alignment: PM'ed to bert Equipment: Leather Armor (worn) Hand Axe (belt) Dagger (belt) Spear (carried) Water Skin (slung over shoulder) Leather Back Pack: 1 wk standard rations, 12 iron spikes, 50' rope, 6 torches (worn) 5 dinosaur bone charms worth 1 GP each (worn) Edit: Re-rolled starting gold, this time using "Carcosa Dice" and purchased more equipment.

A question and a suggestion: Are we using the dice conventions introduced in the Carcosa rules? And if so, do they apply to the starting gold? As for the die roller, I've always used the hamete virtual dice server. The referee can set up a dice log, which is like a private blog for dice rolls and invite the players to use it. A log of all rolls are kept, which makes cheating impossible and makes it easy to refer back to previous rolls. Also nice pictures of dice are shown with every roll, which makes it feel almost like the real thing! Addendum: Aah, but now I noticed the same is probably possible with Invisible Castle. Is there any way for me to link my already rolled up character to the campaign?

First time on invisible castle for me... I like it! And so, Gimyip arrives in the blighted lands with the following rolls: abilities skill sign1 sign2 sign3 coin die type coinGimyip is a Brown Man of 26 years, with a tall but wiry build. He is quick and strong, and known as a skilled fletcher and archer. Some say that he has the blessing of the Goddess... but he ignores such rumour, and is better liked because of it. Abilities:: Str 13, Int 10, Wis 9, Con 8, Dex 15, Cha 12 Skill:: Bowyer/fletcher Sign:: 12 + 10 + Shub-Niggurath !! Coin Dice:: 4d8+10 Coin:: 31gp Starting Gear:: Leather (15gp) Shield (10gp) Wine, quart (1gp) 50' rope (1gp) Small sack (1gp) Spear (1gp) Hand axe (3gp) 6 torches (1gp) PM sent...

Sorry for not being clearer about this earlier -
Anytime I say 'dice' as in 10+ 3 dice for money, without specifying a a kind (eg d6, d10, d12) I mean randomised Carcosa dice.
End of public service announcement...

Never used that Invisible Castle tool before, so I messed up a couple times when they asked for 'Character Name' - from now on, I'll try to remember to put in 'Gozer.' I didn't get a hang of it at first as well, the instructions are after all nonexistant. You could ask on the Invisible Castle forums to have the extra characters removed from the campaign page.

Roll for psionics, just don't post the link in the main forum, send it PM to me.
Once various PMs have wended their way to and fro, I'll set up a Public PC thread for finished PCs, and we shall begin - I'll be checking for posts every weekday and proceeding as fast as you lot want to.
