@mark: Thanks for that glimpse into your creative process. I'd love to read a more detailed breakdown of how you reached the final result. Your entry is beautiful and truly deserving of 1st place. (And, seeing that detailed section, it looks like chgowiz is just missing his left pauldron ) blissinfinite: Just wanted to add that your b+w entry is up there among my top picks. Very nice!

(And, seeing that detailed section, it looks like chgowiz is just missing his left pauldron ) blissinfinite: Just wanted to add that your b+w entry is up there among my top picks. Very nice! Thank you, Atom! I appreciate that. I like yours also! And ditto on Blissinfinite's b+w. That's a cool style. I like it. Yes, you would be correct - a pauldron is missing, which on second thought, I'm thinking might be what was meant about the shoulder pad. That was completely intentional. No particular reason why - I just thought "hmm, i think I'll have a pauldron missing". I do that alot, really - have pieces of armor missing, repaired weapons, a scar, a missing digit, that sort of thing (giving the impression that these guys have done alot of adventuring and have taken alot of blows.) They've probably lost things, damaged armor, traded weapons, split their pants, who knows. Just little details that add to the characters' story, or help to create their story. But I try to make those little elements subtle. That actually was not the picture that I was originally going to submit. I had started a different one first, and got a little ways into it and then this other idea popped into my head. So I ditched the original idea and went with the staircase. When I thought of "surprising twist" I thought of a twisting staircase - like a helix (i think that's the correct word), rather than a spiral staircase. Naturally, a staircase which twists like that and allows adventurers to remain upright without falling off would have to have magic tied to it somehow (unless they're on the moon). So I made a magic door - the entranceway into this magical scenario (and a great way to tie up the top end of that staircase). So I thought that it would be cool if they were being attacked by some flying creature (stirges came to mind), which would be trying to knock them off the stairs - because if at any time a single inch of body, whether it be a heel or a toe, is not touching those stairs, the adventurers will fall off. And they and their equipment fall opposite of where they were standing (whether its up or down) into the ether and are never seen again. That's the concept behind it anyways, and I think maybe a little bit of the creative process is explained in there (if you speak "Mark"). Sorry if that was long. I can't wait to see all of these blown up, also... then I can really see them all at their very best (the details, what is going on in the pic, etc.)

I'm flattered you've confused me for Andy “Atom” Taylor -- I like his “Fluggo and the Cockatrice” as well. Anyway, thanks for that overview of how your muse influenced you. Very, very cool.

LOL. Oh my. I apologize, Ant. You are absolutely correct - I got you confused with Atom. Either I need glasses, or I'm dyslexic - or I just need to slow down and read the name correctly... hehe. Sorry that I got your name wrong. All the same, thank you for asking. I'm happy to talk about the pic.
Btw, is that the same Andy Taylor that paints minis for Otherworld?

That's me! But I'm not the fabulous Andy Taylor that paints the minis, I did the cover art for the Otherworld boxed sets. Congrats on that win! I posted my praise on Dragonsfoot, but forgot to here. Wonderful piece, and to think you completed it in a rush, the day before? Well done that man! You are an inspiration to us all. Can't wait to see the full sized piece. ;D

Thank you, Atom!
It took me the entire day from morning to night, but apparently it all worked out.
Haven't checked Dragonsfoot yet - I'll have to leap on over there.

Black & White - Second Place
Steve Robertson, “Triple Trouble” EO: “An unholy alliance, the travelers are in for a very rough journey. Channeling the old school - very much so. Simple and bold.” Anyone know how I could get a hold of Steve Robertson sometime in the next 2 weeks? Thanks, VS
