Ask and ye shall receive: I have good news, folks. It looks like I'm going to be able to do the boxed sets for S&S. I've had to make some (minor) trade offs in print quality for it, but I found boxes, textured parchment-like cover stock, and have gotten hold of labels for the lid graphics. I've just run off test copies of the covers and box lid graphics, and they look good. Not quite as good as Lulu quality, as I'm doing these on my Samsung CLP-315 laser printer, but they do look really nice. I'm working on swinging a higher end printer for the innards, if I can. That's still up in the air. The price point I am currently looking at for these will be $25 + shipping. A tad higher than the $23 I'd originally estimated, but that's how my numbers worked out. That's actually one of the reasons I'm posting this. If the extra 2 bucks is a deal-breaker, please say so now before I dive headlong into the project. It will still be a little while before they're available, as I want to complete the system revision and make these the inaugural release for that. For now, these will be limited to 25 copies, signed and numbered. If they take off we may look at an unlimited run, which will be similar, save not signed and numbered, I may make a very minor change to the lid graphics and/or books to differentiate it, and they may not have amenities like color character sheets or dice. The box will include: - All 3 volumes of the game
- Reference Sheets (only available in the boxed set!) which reproduce useful tables and rules info for quick access
- 2d6 (the revised books will no longer require d10's)
- Digest-sized Character Sheets (4 full-color "notebook" style and two b&w photocopy-able)
This is also dependent upon me getting the boxes in hand and making sure everything will actually fit inside. Finally, since I am hand-assembling these, the only way they will be available is through direct order with payment by Paypal. I'll provide more details for that when the time comes, but yes, I'm afraid you'll need to have a paypal account to get one. That's all for now. More as the project progresses further.

Dammit.
The "boxes" arrived today...but they sent all lids and no bottoms. Tried to call them twice and either got hung up on twice or cut off twice (I'm not sure). Their web "Contact us" form also seems broken.
I'm quite angry about now.

Ooooh, bummer. Let us know how things pan out on the boxes; I was this close to saying "Sure, I'll order one!"
I'm still leaning very much toward it, mind you...

They e-mailed me back after I responded to my original order (thank God that worked) and were apologetic; they're sending the bottoms out a.s.a.p.
In other news, I've run off test pressings of books 1 and 2 (the two that I've completed revisions on) and they look nice. Just wish I had a good heavy-duty cutter to even out the overhang. I might try it by hand with a utility knife, but we'll see...these might have a bit of overhang on them.

I've been working with an exacto knife and a carpenter's square. It is slow, detailed work but much cheaper than that a $1,000 cutter.

I'd rather have overhang than ragged -- I've done my share of screwing things up with utility knives...

Save me a boxed set when you're ready to go. $25 is a quite reasonable price in my estimation.

I wonder if those who are interested would be willing to fire me off an e-mail at elflair@grey-elf.com so I can keep track of interest? I could then easily directly let you all know when the sets are ready, rather than risking you not getting one b/c you missed the release. Thanks!

Oh, a question: Will the boxed set rules be the revised edition?

That's what Jason has been telling us in the annoucements. I'm psyched for this!

Major coup!
I took my prototype to the FLGS yesterday and the owner pretty much went apeshirt over it. He said he thinks it's one of the coolest projects he's seen and wants not only a copy for himself, but to buy a few to sell in the store. Also have a game store owner in NY looking to buy a few for sale.
Also am up to 16 pre-orders/letters of interest, now.
...at this rate I may have to up my print run.

Wow! This is doing better than I'd thought it would. Excellent.
However, it does mean this: I am now either sold out--or close to it--of the limited run sets.
This doesn't mean you can't still pre-order. What it does mean is that your edition after the limited run sets are done will not include dice and will have only one B&W photocopyable character sheet. It also won't have the signed & numbered certificate enclosed.

Working on it. My printer's not an industrial one so I have to print some then let it rest. I also need to finish looking into an alternate printer for the booklet insides. As of now I have completed: *Assembling the boxes *Printing (but not affixing) box labels *Covers for books 1 and 2 *Certificates for numbering *Product Lists (though these may need to be redone as the font size is a bit small for my tastes). I also have the dice in hand. So at this point I need to get the booklet insides printed, folded and stapled (the folding / stapling probably being the most labor-intensive part of this), print off the covers for book 3 (this weekend, hopefully), and put the darn things together and I'll be ready to go. I'm working diligently, but doing it all myself, so bear with me just a bit longer. You won't be sorry

benoist, send an e-mail to elflair (at) grey-elf (dot) com expressing your interest. I'll be mailing everyone who sends a letter when they're ready to go. From there, it's first-come first-served for the limited edition ones, but if I have overrun I will extend the print run--however, any after the first 30 will not have dice or a signed/numbered certificate, and will have only a single b&w character sheet.

Okay, folks, barring any complications the booklet innards are rolling off of press right now. The boxes should be available soon.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA I'm a complete moron. So I sent these to print...without telling the printer to sort and collate. Which means I have to hand assemble all 48 pages of 30 copies of book one, 28 pages of 30 copies of book two, and 48 pages of 30 copies of book three. This comes out to 12 sheets each in book one and 3, and 7 sheets in book two. sigh. Oh, well. No plan survives contact, right? And at least I'll have the books to assemble .

*g* Just as well it ain't 1,000 copies, Jason. (Stick a starburst logo label on the box "even more hand-collated than the original fantasy role-playing game"?) Hmm... also missed the thread, sorry. Are these all sold/accounted-for by now? Good luck dodging the paper cuts & 'grats on the project, David.

I am not technically sold out. The more direct sales I do, the less I'll have for the three game stores that want to carry it, that's all. If you want one, send an e-mail to me at elflair (at) grey-elf (dot) com and let me know; I'll send out an e-mail when they're ready to go. If you've already sent an e-mail, you're good

Book one is collated. Have the reference tables printed out, and the b&w character sheets. All that remains to be printed is about 2/3 of the color sheets (not an issue).
So I just need to collate and staple all of this, then assemble the boxes and we'll be ready to go.
