Brave Halfling Publishing announces the release of, “Original Edition Adventures – The Ruins of Ramat.” It’s mid-spring, the time when the land’s rulers and their men-at-arms go out to thin down the nearby orc tribes (as well as war with each other). Nearly every able person is already involved in such conflicts or with helping the remaining militia protect the local village. A little girl comes running and crying into the center of the village. When questioned, she sobs that she and her dog were playing just outside of town, by “Witch’s Hill,” when a giant, clawed creature came up out of the ground and took her dog. The girl is obviously completely terrified and her dog, which normally never leaves her side, is nowhere to be seen. You and your companions volunteer to look into the matter. After all, local legends say that vast amounts of forgotten treasure lay in the darkness under the hill. The powers-that-be in the village agree to let you and your party investigate the incident. Indeed, they almost seem relieved to do so... This dungeon crawl is designed for 4-6 player characters of 1st-2nd level. It is compatible with Original Edition Rpgs. The pdf has been designed to be a little booklet. All you have to do is print, staple and fold! The print version is a saddle stitched booklet that comes with a 67lb card stock cover and 40lb interior pages that are printed in black & white. Both print and pdf versions are available, but the print version is only available directly from BHP.When you purchase a print copy directly from BHP, you will receive a free pdf version as well!
The print version is $5.00 (United States & Canada) and $6.00 (World-Wide). Shipping is included in the price!

What a cool cover. I don't buy many modules, but the price sounds most excellent!

How is this one different from the Labyrinth Lord version?

How is this one different from the Labyrinth Lord version? Great TASTE! LESS filling! Okay, okay ... well, let's see. Statted out for original edition D&D rules, no interior art. A very minimalist presentation, very much in the spirit of the original digest sized rulebooks. HTH.

How is this one different from the Labyrinth Lord version? It has OD&D stats and no interior art, as dubeers has said. It's also a booklet as where the LL version is full page. The $5 does get you a hand-made booklet in addition to a pdf in both normal viewing form and rearranged easy booklet printing form (for people who have trouble with printing booklets). It's basically a small module that makes for an easy evening of fun. I like it for the convenience factor of the presentation rather than the awesomeness factor of more detailed dungeons.

I'll tell you -- I love the concept of short modules in the same basic size as my brown OD&D booklets. I think that this idea is a real winner, and I'll be buying a copy soon!

I got mine today.
It's a fun little adventure and I suggest that (unless you're going to be a player in it) all the OD&Ders around here should order up a copy. The print version is only $5, which is pretty dang cheap. Granted, it's not a thick book or anything, but it's nice for 5 bucks. And I got mine fast!
I was leery about Paypal because I'd never used it and don't have an account. But you can use your credit card just like any site with a shopping cart, and the whole thing actually works. Very painless.

One thing to point out before anyone feels ripped, the Ruins map isn't a huge crazy dynamic sprawl of wild dungeon. It's one level and circular in nature, with just a few twists and turns. It seems more of a side trek or an enjoyable "one-shot" than something you'd build an ongoing game from.
That said, I think $5 for an evening of fun isn't too awful a price to pay. Another upside is that pretty much no prep is required to run it. You can easily throw the default setup out the window. If your players wander off into the middle of nowhere, rather than wasting a bunch of time, have them stumble upon Witch Hill!
I enjoy having two or three little modules like this sitting around for when the PCs get off track.

It's a single stocked site with less than 20 keyed encounter areas. Though it's quite susceptible to expansion or modification if one is so inclined. Note: If you look at the photograph above, you can see what the map looks like.

I've sent off the second printing of this module to the printers. I should have it by Friday. We've gone for a new, color cover. In addition, the dungeon map is now a large, full sheet that is easily removed from the booklet:

The new cover looks nice, though I'm happy with the old one. Btw, I've tied the plot in with the Haunted Keep - Abudakar Rodemus was the original progenitor of the Rodemus clan.

Thanks Ken! Unfortunately, the cover has been 86'd due to poor printer quality and we've reverted to the original cover that calls to mind the original edition.
Err ... I'm not John and don't speak for BHP but I work for John and thought I would pass that bit of information along.

Have you tried printing the cover on glossy (photo) paper? (Then again, I'm not sure everyone would like the shininess.)
Regular card stock really sucks for professional quality products, although I use it a lot for my own booklet covers.

I'm afraid I don't know the specifics of the failure, with the exception the printing was not very sharp and there was a lot of color bleed-over.
All I know for certain is: John got the proofs back from the printer and the quality was not up to BHP's standards.

Here's what John said on the subject over on the S&W blog:
It seems digital printing can't match the quality of traditional printing technology, when it comes to colour covers anyway.

I have to say, I liked the original cover better anyway. But then, I don't need glossy stuff; it never comes close to the pictures in my head anyway...

I have to confess, coffee, I liked the original version better as well. They were both quite good.

We are back to the original version now (and all "Original Edition" products will keep the red, white & black covers), but the map is now a full 8.5"x11" sheet that can be easily removed from the module.

I especially liked this bit: "But, but........isn't this everything you hate about D&D??" "Nope battlemaps and special powers and the crappy system are what i hate. 1st lvl clerics and mages with 1hp and 1 spell per day are where its at, today we went 'old skool' and it was ace"
