That first link is especially useful since you can download a RTF file of the rules (and also map files).

Thanks for posting the links. It's nice to keep Metamorphosis Alpha 1E alive! You'll be happy to know that the first official errata sheet is about to be released for MA1e. It is aimed at providing fixes, not new rules, which the old Dragon magazines do well enough as is. The errata sheet will also be a part of the MA1e pdf which Jim wants to release this year. Morbius

Morbius - Good to see you on board here. I wasn't sure what should or shouldn't be said about the new stuff so I have kept quiet. Don't want to spill too many beans, eh? - Marv

I thought you might like to know that the errata file is now available on our main homepage (www.metamorphosisalpha.net) under "Older Editions". Just select "MA1e" and download it from there.

Just to let you all know, MA1e is now available on RPGNow and DriveThru! Nice to know. For the newbies, Metamorphosis Alpha 1E is one of the first ever RPGs published. MA uses a rules system very similar to OD&D, only with mutations and technology instead of magic and monsters. It's a slice of RPG history and it's a really good game that's fun to read and fun to play!

This weirdly enough sounds like a game I might want to run as a PbEM or in a forum. I've got the 1st Edition (and would probably download the PDF to save the original paper), and there's something weirdly wacky and fun about this old chestnut. James Ward deserves some credit for doing something fun and original here. Hmmm. Hmmmm.

I have just uploaded a set of tiles for Metamorphosis Alpha onto this topic on our members only forums: www.metamorphosisalpha.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=186Registration is free, and comments and suggestions will be responded to on that forum. These are part of our Starship Geomorphs project and still a work in progress and I am open to suggestions for improvement. Craig J. Brain

Hey, thanks to all who have posted on Metamorphosis Alpha. Never really gave it a look until today when I was following this thread and (pray my wife doesn't find out) I bought it at RPGNow once I read the rtf file at one of the links provided...
All I can say is COOL!!! I am totally enjoying reading through the rules right now. Man, they sure don't write RPGs like they did back in the day of school...
Again, thanks for the link to RPGNow as this is something that I think I am going to definitely give a go very soon...

Hi! Jim Ward is looking to start the next chapter in his online game of Metamorphosis Alpha. This part of the game will take place in Phase II, with the players taking the role of androids. Players will no doubt have the chance to face many well-known perils of the Starship Warden, and a few new ones, all the while trying not to get turned into a killer android Character sheets are available on those forums, and when completed, can be hosted there for all to see. Jim will be using the forums to run the game and trial Starship Geomorphs. So, if you've ever wanted the chance to game with Jim, drop by and join in. Lurkers are most welcome. Craig J. Brain WardCo.

Happy New Year! This year we are hoping to see at least two new products be released by WardCo. for Metamorphosis Alpha. The much-delayed Starship Geomorphs as well as The House On The Hill adventure module. No dates on these at present - timing depends upon funds, which depends upon my pocket money If you want to find out more about what we are planning, and check out the new artwork - come and join in the discussion on our forums at www.metamorphosisalpha.net/phpBBv3/. In online chat a few minutes ago, Jim Ward told me the following:
(I got the rules in .rtf myself about eight years ago, via a Yahoo group. )

Jim was fortunate years ago to keep the rights to Metamorphosis Alpha (not so lucky with Gamma World since TSR/WOTC still has those rights) and I can certainly understand why he wants to maintain the value of his property. Particularly since he's a single guy and not a multimillion corporation like Hasbro ...

I like to search the net for stuff to inspire my games. I recently came across this site. Relic Radio Sci-Fi has some terrific shows available: SF100: The Roads Must Roll SF101: Colony by X Minus One SF102: For The Crew Of Atlantis SF103: The Castaway by SF68 SF104: The Outer Limit by Beyond This World SF105: Two From Space Patrol SF106: Venus Is A Mans World SF107: Competition SF108: You Died Last Night SF70: Universe SF71: The Mimic SF72: The Invader SF88: The Giant Bubble SF89: Rocket From Manhattan SF90: Lost In Time SF91: Almost Human SF92: The Outer Limit SF93: Space Shark SF94: The Category Inventor SF95: Grenvilles Planet SF96: The Insect SF97: Two From Space Patrol SF98: The Big Brain SF99: Forbidden Planet SF70 - Universe will be a particular treat for Metamorphosis Alpha fans. It is based upon a particular Robert Heinlein story and is bound to whet your appetite for some old-fashioned MA gaming Generation starships, mutants and disputes over religion Craig J. Brain WardCo.

There's definitely something wonky about the registration. When I tried it said something about "the fields for character type and website & location must be filled". Well, character type is a drop-down selection, not a field (and I did make a selection), and there is a tick box for website & location (whatever that means), not fields (which would make sense, although I'm not sure why they would be mandatory - does everybody have a website?).
Just testing, by the way, I've never played MA although I've always found articles about it interesting.

Just testing, by the way, I've never played MA although I've always found articles about it interesting. I'm biased, because I've played 1E MA for decades, but I think you'd like it. Different versions exist, but I have the most love for 1E (the 1976 version), and you can buy a PDF pretty cheap on DriveThru or one of those sites. (My advice is not to track down a paper copy until after you read over the PDF. Getting a 1E copy can set you back $50 or more.)
