Hello Grogs and demi-Grogs
Any plans to publish more material on Gabor Lux's Fomalhaut setting? I'm curious if there is a repository of English-language Fomalhaut PDFs somewhere. (URLs would be great.)

Beyond awesome, isn't it? I'm honored to have published it.
I believe that the dungeons in FO #1 and #2 are both on Fomalhaut, and I think Knockspell #1 has a small Fomalhaut bit as well. It's his home campaign. There are several other bits on-line...but anyway, I'm sure Dr. Lux will be by in good time to answer your questions, or link to appropriate places.

The little bit that I've seen has definitely piqued my interest. From the looks of his (Hungarian?) site, Lux has more than enough info on the setting to put together -- oh, say -- a Supplement VI.

Glad people like it. Some of the material doesn't translate accurately -- to a large extent, Fomalhaut is a satire of Hungarian society and politics -- but still. In English, I have the following so far: The Tomb Complex of Ymmu M'Kursa: sub-level from the Khosura Undercity. Sadly, putting the entire city and dungeons into print is an undertaking I just can't contemplate right now - and if I could, it would be in Hungarian first. Maybe later. The Tower of Birds: this was actually from a Wilderlands campaign, but I reran it for Fomalhaut. Systema Tartarobasis: not actually for the world proper, but in keeping with the campaing's themes, including the political satire bit. 50 Adventures: for the upcoming issue of Fight On!; short and off the wall adventure seeds. Isles on an Emerald Sea: for the premier issue of Knockspell. Short piece describing two islands. First of a series. In Hungarian, there is also: Black Blood: creepy mansion/dungeon exploration adventure with minimal combat. I wanted to submit this for Fight On! #4, but I got so badly burned out on work that it had to be postponed for a later issue. Broken Wastes: a collection of material including a Keep on the Borderlands style home base, a list of caravans and travellers you can encounter there or on the road and two adventures. One is The Tower of Birds; the other one is a lot more surreal. All of this was originally for the Wilderlands. Hopefully published sooner or later. The Unholy Secrets of Protoros: this was written by one of my former players (currently studying in China), originally for OD&D rules. d**n clever first level death-fest with lost technology, degenerates living in the crater of a dead volcano, and weird magic. Check out the cover I made for it -- makes me proud. Fomalhaut Regional Maps: nine regional hex maps; Ref and player versions. May be interesting to check out. That's about it. The rest is mostly on handwritten notes. I'll hopefully get to the better stuff some day, but with work and more work, it may take a lot of time.

Also, no "Dr. Lux" yet. However, I'm planning to submit my PhD thesis in March, and then at last...

Go for it! Get it done! We support you! I'm so much happier now that I finished mine! Go, Melan!! (Okay, so I am a little giddy at having actually finished my PhD; I now know it is possible to do. )

Or have you chosen a more sensible field? Also, I'm very much enjoying the Fomalhaut article. Naturally, my favourite location is the polis of 'Akrasia'.

I have a full, glorious mane of healthy hair despite my PhD.
This will help me feel better about my new job at McDonald's after my current contract wears out.

Don't go into IT if you want to keep your hair. The icon on my blog is fairly accurate to the lack of hear on the top of my head... mainly from pulling it out due to lack of requirements, lack of support or lack of intelligence (usually on my part!)

Funny, I've been playing in your Fomalhaut campaign for two years now and I never considered it might be. Just out of curiosity, is there anything specific there that I missed, or is it just a more general thing about all figures of power being amoral corrupt bastards? And their incompetence? And gorging themselves fat while the people starve? And folks being a herd of stupid sheep letting their leaders be? You know, actually, I think I can see the similarity now.

I prefer to think it is not such a vulgar simplification that you can see the straightforward analogies... well, okay, Etunians are modern Hungarians, and Ottrog Bridgewatch is this viaduct, but that had to be obvious. Your line of thinking has some merit, though. Coincidentally, I don't think Fomalhaut is an unpleasant place. It's certainly closer to modern ideas about man and society than the usual fantasy setting.

Well, we never got to Ottrog so far. Interesting bit about the Etunians, I'll need to meditate on that... and maybe revise my character's long-term plans. I want a more competent people to rule over.

An update that has been slow in the making (and how!): Since people have previously asked if I had a centralised website to collect my campaign materials, most recently issued by Rich of The Circle of Dar Janix and grodog, I have decided to go forward with the idea. Now since the articles I have submitted to Fight On! and Knockspell are technically still in print, I did not upload them as I thought to when I first opened my website late 2008. Instead, the English section of Fomalhaut will serve as a database of the things I have written, with short descriptions and design notes; reviews and miscellaneuos writings (like my essay on dungeon mapping and the infamous Tyranny of Fun hypothesis) will go into their own subcategories. At this point, the site, which is located at fomalhaut.rpg4.me/, has three entries up: two of them, in the 'Resources' category, discuss the Isles on an Emerald Sea and Broken Wastes campaign series, while the third one in 'The Crypt Level' (a repository of lost or manuscript-type stuff) tells the story of The Railway Station Haul, a cautionary tale for people who travel by public transport. More to come later; for now, go over and take a look.

For what it's worth, the site has been updated with my thoughts on Strabonus, Kauran: The House of Thieves (a partially published series), Zothay and The House of Rogat Demazien. More will come as time and will allows.

My group enjoyed exploring The Tower of Birds (FO! #2) last year. Presently we are on our third session of The Tomb Complex of Ymmu M'Kursa (FO! #1). Of course, I have imported these adventures to my Hyperborea campaign, and they fit like a glove, being sword-and-sorcery in tone, with not a few ray guns scattered here and there. Perhaps I should do a few session reports of Ymmuu M'Kursa? Anyway, I've mentioned it at my facebook page, and I'll mention it here: Lux may be my favorite adventure designer today. The man has a brilliant imagination.

I am about to start a Fomalhaut campaign in a couple of weeks and am very excited about it. I've inserted the city-state Zothay into the peninsula north of the bay of Tridentos, near the Mountains of Monoculus. Apart from all the "official" adventures and encounters to choose from, I'm also going to chuck into the mix The Illhiedrin Book (JG) to start the party off, Alphonso Warden's The People of the Pit, which should fit nicely with the nearby Land of the People of the Worm, Matt Finch's The Spire of Iron and Crystal, an off the map journey to X1 The Isle of Dread, with I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City located on the island's plateau, a beefed up The Forgotten Isle by Magique Productions Ltd, and two modules by Expeditious Retreat Press The Flaming Footprints of Jilanth and The Seven Shrines of Nav'k-Qar. I'm even contemplating slotting in Arneson's The Temple of the Frog and Michael Curtis' The Fane of St. Toad. Exciting stuff, lots of possiblities and probably a couple of years of gaming. Thanks in advance for all the fun Gabor and thanks too for posting your design notes, it's been great reading them.

Thanks for the comments. Ghul, those session reports would be interesting. Coincidentally, if you liked Ymmu, I might have something for you; send me an e-mail address via PM. ADMIN EDIT: Other comments moved to "module use" thread

Probably we should split the 'using modules' stuff to a new thread. I'll see if I can get Fin to do that...

I can't do an actual "thread split" per se, but have tried to scoop up the parts of the posts related to modules and put them in a thread here. Apologies if I messed this up. It was tricky in spots. Please continue discussing Fomalhaut here.

Ha! I have a "Tower of Birds" adventure as well. Guess that's what I get for not buying FO #2! Looks like I'll need to rename mine. - Wheggi
