I had no idea, so thank you. I just checked Mythmere Games & Lulu, and SW:WB is available in PDF for $2. There is a link to a Word version for free though.

As a relatively new enamorant of OD&D the lack of an OSE-like version is a virtue to me, as I can interpret the ambiguities or fill the gaps with my own rules. Consulting other interpretations is part of the enjoyment, but the larger part of the enjoyment is taking inspiration from OD&D and it's variations and making "My OD&D". And I don't mean this in any impolite way, but given all the variations, what would "an OD&D game with the success of OSE" be? It seems a true dilemma, to somehow consolidate all the variations, while maintaining all the ambiguities and gaps. You hit the nail on the head with this one. Having 3+ variations of OD&D while still perusing several other 0e Clones is what makes our little piece of the pie so good. OD&D is a game but it's also very much a feeling, and it's also part of the joy to make your own OD&D, which I genuinely believe was the intention with the original rules. "Here's what we've made up. Use this as a ground work and make whatever you want for you and your friends."

"OD&D is the perfect game -- just not as written."

My attitude and current approach to OD&D is mostly attributed to how I approached Classic Traveller 10+ years ago (and after decades away from the game): start with the original, read up on others' opinions of it, then "roll" my own. 3 LBB Classic Traveller is in the same category as OD&D: a basic framework, general guidelines and inevitable gaps so early in the hobby.

Excuse me for stirring dust in an old thread, but I'll add another voice to the S&W Whitebox crowd.
When I introduced my wife to D&D, that's what we used. When my children asked to join, I selected it again because it's a pleasant read and easy to use.
And it feels open to me, as if I'm encouraged to add my own flavor to the game. It's perfect for our table. We appreciate your work.
